What is the best...

10" speaker for classic rock (ZZ top, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin)?

I guess the response from the speaker will differ depending on the circuit in your amp, but is ther one 10" known to give you a nice break up tone, and a raw fuzzy tone when pushed a bit further?

Re: What is the best...

Mine haha that Jensen Custom 10 in my Laney is quite like that. I cranked it up some on Friday night.

Re: What is the best...

Nope. My friend Craig and I just brought my stuff to his warehouse/rehearsal space and we cranked her up. I'm not sure the speaker was broken in on it yet though...I don't know if they are on new amps.

And I know nothing about speakers but it seems your description applies to every speaker made...

That is like saying "every picks is just a piece of plastic" which I was told by a guy at Rikki music when I was looking for Gibson picks. First, it is not true. But then if you go past this mistake, you still won't find two make of picks that will give you the same feel.

Surely not all speakers are good for classic rock. And some do it better than others.

So again...

Re: What is the best...

True. But what you told us very generic :P Kinda like saying 'I want an amp which has nice breakup sounds and distorts in a nice way' :P

But yeah...when I saw your definition I thought of that Jensen I have. I never heard other 10s though. Mine got pretty fuzzy when cranked up.

Re: What is the best...

I do know that the P10R alnico works great for blues and classic rock, in a 4-10 tweed bassman, and pretty much matches your requiements, when used in that kind of set up.

The Celestion Vintage 10 is a 10" version of the Vintage 30. I havn't played one, but I have heard that they work great, and would expect it to be exceptional for classic rock and blues if it sounds similar to the 12" version.

He won't let go :9:

Sacré Pierre ! But yey, do you know exactly what type of jensen it is? They have several 10" in their range.

The one I got in my Laney is a G10E 30. How would it compare to the Vintage 10, or the G10-35L?

Re: What is the best...

i much prefer the jensen p10q rather than the p10r and ted webers versions are better yet

Re: What is the best...

The Eminence Legend 102 gives a more "vintage" tone, as they are recommended as replacements in classic Fenders, but I prefer the Legend 105. I just happen to be an Eminence fan, and they have a bunch of cool 10" models to choose from.

Re: What is the best...

It depends on the amp, guitar, fx, etc...let it be know that a lot of the tones you mentioned come from 12's but on to the answer. The celestion G1035 that was mentioned is a great speaker that can usally be had cheep and a good Jensen is hard to beat as well!
