In a serial loop your signal will be interrupted.
Guitar> Amp Preamp> Effects Processor>Amp Poweramp>Speakers
With a serial loop your signal will probably have a analog to digital, back to analog conversion.
In a parallel loop a clear dry signal will remain and you can control the percentage of wet signal that if presented in your tone.
DRY Guitar> Amp Preamp>Amp Poweramp>Speakers
WET% Guitar> Amp Preamp> Effects Processor>Amp Poweramp>Speakers
In a serial loop your signal will be interrupted.

I'd say so but there really is no "best" in this music thing....
I think if you own good guitars, good amps and good cabs you probably want to maximize your unprocessed signal and would want to avoid ADA conversion. Even great effect units will in some way change your tone in a serial loop. Some effects such as compression don't work in a parallel loop. I think delay sounds great in a parallel loop. If you want to use a pitch shifter to drop your guitar down a couple steps you have to use a serial loop because you don't want a dry signal. Hope that helps.

Alot of amps have either both or a parallel loop that changes to a series loop (all the signal is wet) when the FX mix control is at full.
