What is the difference between different tone pots?

I've heard about people changing out the tone pots on their guitars to 1 meg pots, instead of the stock 250k pots. Is there a difference in sound, like the difference between volume pots?

More open sound, more treble. You more or less hear the sound of your guitar wide open - no high frequencies bled off to ground.

as what spidervenom said with the exception that there are still high frequencies bled to ground no matter the value of pot. apparently, i read somewhere that 250k pot wil have a more continuous taper (a more gradual reduction in tone) compared to a 500k pot. wonder if that hold truth and how will that affect a 1meg tone pot.
