What is the Mount Rushmore of guitar amps?

Securb

One of Jerry's Kids
I guess I will go first -

Fender Bassman - The platform all else will be built on.
Vox AC 30 - The Beatles, Brian May...Brian freakin' May
Roland JC 120 - An amp that ends up in the Police's and Metalica's backline!
Marshall JCM 800 - Let's destroy the ozone.

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of guitar amps?

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of guitar amps?

Need a Marshall, Fender and Vox.

Marshall’s gotta be a Plexi (1959), it’s the sound that created hard rock
Vox AC30, from British Invasion to Tom Petty and Indie Rock
Fender, I’m going to say Blackface Deluxe Reverb, Blackface tone and an amp that’s been recorded countless times
The fourth is either a Fender Tweed (Deluxe probably) or a Mesa Dual Rectifier. Both are staples of genres.

I highly approve of this selection.

I think we will need a bigger mountain. The list for this would be very different if it was asked in 1980 vs now. There are some very classic amps in the last 30 years which have really made an impact.

A Rockman Guitar Monitor?:

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of guitar amps?

I agree.with the Twin as iconic

Probably one of the Marshall Plexi amps

I'm sure that the Peavey Bandit would rank with them as an icon

And yeah the JC 120 , mostly because I cant think of anything that competes with a the other 3

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of guitar amps?

Fender Deluxe Reverb
Marshall Plexi or JMP Lead Series
Fender Baseman
Vox AC 30

My personal mountain is the hot rodded Marshall tone. I love the sound of a souped up 2204, but I've always been a 2 channel kind of guy; so make that a 2205 for me please. I love Fender style cleans and Marshall tones from Plexi to hot rodded JCM tones. I don't need anything heavier than that. I've thought about getting another one (should never have sold the Jeff Seal modded I had), but for the time and money I can get a Runt 50 or a used Splawn Quick Rod. That's the way I'll go, and probably the Runt, since it's even cheaper than the Splawn with a better clean; though I really love the 3 gears on the Splawn.

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of guitar amps?

I'm having a hard time thinking of an amp that was perfect and beautiful the way it was then has been modified with ridiculous patriotic imagery.

I'm gona say whatever amps Ted Nugent uses.

That's what makes it fun. All of us can name off 10 - 20 great amps. When you are limited to 4, you really have to think and play Sophie's Choice with some of your favorite amps. Like in my case I wanted to list an early Marshall but seeing they were based on the Fender Bassman I thought it better to go that route and add an 80's Marshall. I also wanted to throw the Twin or Deluxe in there but thought the Bassman would be the best representation for Fender.

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of guitar amps?

Intresting that the amp that most of us agree on so far is the Vox AC 30.

I think it’s because it’s clearly Vox’s best and most iconic. Vox is a unique sound while it’s hard to chose between the top 5 Fenders (or Marshalls for that matter). For example, I would put the Twin, Tweed Deluxe, Blackface Deluxe Reverb, Bassman over it but then it would lose the point of the exercise [emoji4]
