--|-|--------o-----------
--(-|-)-----#o-----------

There are the notes (up one octave for clarity)

Clearly an E triad in the center

I didn't go for the Amaj7 because the C# was missing

True, but it has an A in the bass so it kind of call for an A. An A minor maj 7 is highly unusual, so it makes me think of a A major 9.

Re: What is the name of this chord?

Without the F# on the high E and that string open, it's an A9 or A9sus. With the F#, it's not a real chord according the chord charts I've been looking at. Perhaps still an A9 since the 9 is the B? My off-hand theory is sooooo rusty.

You've just invented the H chord.

Re: What is the name of this chord?

Could be either, the E9/A could also be called an E11, I would probably go with some kind of E, but you really need more information about the other chords to know what to call it.

I used to get into things like this, but then at a certain point I followed Zappa's advise::laugh2:

Yeah, but with the F# its A 6/9. A common chord in Jazz. You will also see this with a b5. Si it would be written as A 6/9 b5. Those Jazz guys make up these chord just to confuse us blues and rock guys I swear!:laugh2:

Re: What is the name of this chord?

I'd go with Rick and junior, but with unusual chords the NAME tends to be dependent upon what the rest of the band is playing.

Re: What is the name of this chord?

I have a chord wizard from Virtual Studio Systems. This is what they say it is:

Amaj13 (if you add C#)
E11 (if you add D)
Emaj11 (if you add D#)
---all with a weight of 83%

which means another note needs to be added to make it work.
