Re: what is the soldano hot mod?
I've done some research about the hot mod. What it basically does is replace a 12AX7 tube (a dual triode tube) with a 6K11 or other compactron tube (a triple triode tube). So you get one additional gain stage thrown in your juicy old marshall circuit. The reason that it's not necessarily a good idea for all amps is that you have to put this thing where it can benefit the gain of the amp. If you stick it in a position where the extra triode is powering the tone stack or in the phase inverter spot, it does you no good at all. It works best with older master volume marshalls. My Edana is a non-master volume amp, but when I get an attenuator it will be fine. I gotta crank the Edana to get to the dirt anyway, so loud and proud is fine with me.
