What does CNC mean?
Its a girl!
I find it especially amusing that they're on the American Fender bodies, and most Mexican Fender bodies, but not on the Highway 1 bodies...
You know -- you're right! I've got a '07 Hgwy1 Tele and it doesn't have that hole. What's up with that!
coke stash
Got one on my 08 AmStd Tele. Pretty lame, if you ask me. I can route out a better body without any magic divots in the wood.
I just love how the ebay seller describes the guitar body as "vintage 50s" in the title.
Computerized Numerically Controlled. It refers to any machine that is controlled by a computer program as opposed to a person.
When guitarists and guitar builders talk about CNC, they usually mean a CNC router.
yep, in think what happens is that they chuck a piece of wood in there, it drills those holes as a reference so it can go and route and drill out the rest of the body.
the machine would look at that hole as "center" and everything else references to that. in theory
Still no explanation as to why the Highway 1 bodies don't have that though. It seems their cheap guitars have it and their expensive guitars (the Am Std line) have it, but not the guitars in between...
I gotta get me one of those holes!
Mine will need to be large enough to hold a shot glass so I can do a shot or two when I am working on the guts of my guitar...
