What is you opinion of Bill Lawrence pickups?

Re: What is you opinion of Bill Lawrence pickups?

Why bother figuring all this garbage out....it's easier to just go with one of the other br
I prefer going with the "little guys" pickups when I can. Instead of DiMarzio & Seymour-Duncan's, I prefer Fralin, JBE (Joe Barden), Wilde (Bill Lawrence), Dylans, Porter, Wolfetone, Amalfitano, etc., and I've NEVER been dissapointed.

I know I've heard some smack talkin' about Bill Lawrence pickups, what about his stock from the 70's, the L-550 and 560 in particular?

My main pickup was a 500XL in the 80s I loved it. I also played his Velvet Brick in a Gibson around the same time. I currently have a 250ML in the neck of my Strat and would never take it out.

in 1990 or 91 I had a washburn N2 with a 500L in , never liked, I changed it with a Duncan but I don't remember which, I bet a JB, anyway I remember a big upgrade, then I soon sold it, don't know the end of that 500L

Colors and tastes aren't to be discussed but to me, Bill Lawrence "USA" like those mounted in a N2 (I think) are really not the best concretizations of BL designs. I'd rather buy something from the first era, before the split between Willi Lorenz Stich (="Bill Lawrence") and Wajcman. Or some Wilde pickups a.k.a "Bill and Becky": they illustrate more attention to details and less tendency to use cheap materials.
