What is your dream amp?

Tbh I'd never even heard of the guy until the MT-15 amp came out and I googled him :lmao: I still have'nt heard a thing he's done. But, the Mt15 is a sweet sounding amp and based on that I'm curious about the MT100. We do seem to be getting the new PRS amp's in stores here (and at US prices, no BS mark-up's) . The Archon 50 is available everywhere as is some PRS Hendrix's amp so I'm expecting the MT100 to be out in stores here as well when it's finally out. I would'nt mind giving it a whirl to see if it's anywhere near as great as he says..:bigthumb:

Not even sure if JJ's are actually re-badged NOS 6P3S-E's (?) ...or some newer take on them?. I've only tried the Sovtek 5881's which I thought sounded fine but the old Saratov 6P3S-E's off ebay blew them away for my kind of tone (and feel) preference..
I've always wanted to try those old actual Russian waferplates. I've heard they're great. But I don't have any 6L6/5881 amps anymore. :(

Currently running a 20W EL84 poweramp that I dropped some Russian 6P14P-EV's and those are nice. :D

Man...I love those tubes. I'm lucky to have got myself a few quads when the going was good. They're still priced OK I think, I should maybe pick up a couple more :D

6P14-Ev's are nice tubes, but a touch too much headroom for my 15W Chinese Goldea Rex...you needed to crank the amp to get a good distorted sound with them. The regular 6P14's were better in there (and cheaper too:p)

But I ended up with NOS East German RFT EL84's and those are awesome. They're a bit pricey though....nothing crazy like the US/West European NOS tube prices..but still more than I can afford for my other EL84 amps (or I'd have them in all of them). Their 12AX7's are amazing as well. KInda thick & dark (meaty) with shitloads of gain & still not particularly noisy. I have a few of those scattered about in the V1 position's of a few of my amp's.

I honestly don't notice the headroom, LOL. At least not in my amps (EVH LBX 1 and 2, Dark Terror, and Mooer Tube Engine). Even if I do, its still not enough headroom for a full-band setting, IMO. What I do notice is the cleaner low-end under the mic at just below full-band volumes.

I also like the Sovtek EL84M's, which are basically the same thing, just current production. But the regular Sovtel EL84's are fine too.

Less headroom = earlier breakup on the dirt channel & a spongier feel (which I like :D)

BTW, it's unconnected but I was just wondering if you have any experience with JJ EL34L's? I just saw a brand new quad somewhere that was dirt cheap :D

SpiderValve HDII 100 watt tube head. 126 presets. More sounds than I can probably ever find, let alone use. But the one's that I use work. Here's a shot of it in my back yard on top of a 300 watt 2x12 cab loaded with a Swamp Thang/Texas Heat pair.

I was reading somewhere that Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) has used those ^^ pretty extensively on a bunch of KD albums..he's one of my all-time fave guitar players/influences...

I've played a couple of gigs with them myself & always liked them. it's an underrated amp for how good it actually sounds..

If I could find one used out here for decent price I'd def pick it up :bigthumb:

Yep. But not much. They destroyed my Peavey XXX's screen grid resistors, LOL. I read they're just off-spec EL34's that run a little hotter, hence, more headroom. I heard they sound good, though. But having the option, I'm a 6L6 guy.

I know I already answered this earlier by saying a Dumble. In all honesty, my Mesa Stiletto Ace is everything I could want in an amp. Crystal cleans to hi gain scream and everything in between.

I'm sure you can still get some other alternative to those short bottle Ruby Shuguangs.

I like Sovtek 5881's way better than JJ 5881's, personally. But if you want full-on 6L6's, I'm sure there's still nice ones being produced.

I don't have great knowledge of tubes. I know I really like el84/el34 sound. But the MT15 catch my attention. I think it's really a good amp (a bit too expensive in truth). I heard both releases of MT15 and the first release with 6l6 installed seems to me having more headroom and a little bit more power output capabilities. That's why I tend to prefer it over the current production

I guess if you want it to play safe, grab an old one, but also, don't be afraid to grab a new one. I'm sure the 6L6's sound different in the old ones, but you can still get your 6L6 of choice in there. Plenty of people are going to tell you his favorite 6L6 is better than the others, but bottom line, you can still adjust the current ones to fit any 6L6 you might want to try. It's got external bias points, so swapping those out and ajusting the bias shouldn't be too hard if you do some research. Probably better-sounding (and more adjusted to your taste) than with some random 6L6's Mark Tremonti liked and PRS decided they were within their budget to have the amp come with them.

My dream setup:
1.) Tweed '59 Bassman 4x10
2.) Vox AC30 2x12
3.) JC120

Each of these amps is just too loud for my needs. I'm really enjoying solid state combos under 100w. For a while I had an early '90s Peavey Bandit (USA), which was awesome.

A genuine (not reissue) Blackface Deluxe Reverb reconfigured with a pair of big bottle KT66s...
Have built a single ended KT66. It sounds amazing. But required significant circuit changes a bigger PS and a huge OT.

what would be the goal with a vintage bf deluxe reverb with kt66s? youd have to swap the power tranny to be able to keep up with the kt66 needs, and probably have to swap the output tranny as well to get the impedance matched. i have a '66 bf dr and i have a pair of gec kt66 tubes, i wouldnt put em together though since both are expensive and not compatible without some serious mods.

now if you built a deluxe reverb preamp with a fender style power amp designed to supply the necessary heater current and voltages and an OT that had the correct primary and secondary windings, it would be a cool amp for sure!

Understood, that's why I said "required significant circuit changes a bigger PS and a huge OT."
I used a 5F1 preamp circuit with a 5F2H power section w/KT66s, bigger PWR xfmr and OPT xfmr.
It sounds amazing so since this is a dream thread the Deluxe Reverb version of that would be my dream amp.
The 5F2H layout:

it was the fact you were asking for a genuine one that made me raise an eyebrow.

looks alike a fun little amp! a good single ended amp almost always sounds cool
