What is your favorite Bridge humbucker pickup?

Re: What is your favorite Bridge humbucker pickup?

The Musician's Friend/Custom Shop 50th Anniversary A2 Seth fall in between the production Seths and the Antiquity; slightly over-wound, a fabulous all-around pickup. I should have bought ten sets of these.

Yeah, tell me ABOUT IT... :banghead:

Re: What is your favorite Bridge humbucker pickup?

Honestly, it's difficult for me to pick. I prefer different pups for different styles of music. But, I guess since I'm first-and-foremost a metal guitarist, the invader would be #1.

Re: What is your favorite Bridge humbucker pickup?

Most of the choices depend on the guitar wood combination and construction, but overall the first one would be my top favorite on any guitar.

In order of preference:

1. Screamin' Demon
2. Custom 5
3. Bill and Becky L500-XL or any L500-L from the 80's. All un-shielded.
4. Parallel Axis Original
5. Pearly Gates

Man, this thread is so old that I have a post under my old account name.

My answer is different now, and so is my username. So:

JB. I swapped pickups like mad until I found it, and haven't swapped any since.

Two runners up: the Duncan/Ibanez SZ bridge, and the DiMarzio Breed Bridge.

Burstbucker 3. For me, it's the perfect middle-of-the-road humbucker that can do everything from blues and classic rock to classic metal.

Barring that, I'll take a JB.

I'm more of a single coil/P90 guy but lets see....

A few contenders probably in order...

59
500T
Super Distortion

It's a Fender Lead I
Funny thing is I don't like any other Lead I pickup, it's just this one that has this single coil-esque sparkle yet humbucker punch and crunch. I have another Lead I but it's muddy, lifeless, and generic in comparison.

Full Shred
Demon
Pearly Gates
Duncan Custom
JB
Mo'Joe

Re: What is your favorite Bridge humbucker pickup?

Depends what it's for and what it's going into, but here's my list:

PGb
WCR Ironman
BK ceramic Warpig
BG1400
Zhang '55 tele rewind
DDb
Detonator A8

Re: What is your favorite Bridge humbucker pickup?

Them Ironmans can be pretty kewl... I used one for years, but it dawned on me that in most of my guitars they didn't get pinched harmonics very well for some reason... Otherwise great. Kinda like a huge sounding paf with more focus and sizzle and power. Unique sound for sure

Re: What is your favorite Bridge humbucker pickup?

*has no trouble with pinch harmonics on teh Ironman*

edit: wait, it was you that had the A8, right? I put an A8 on mine for a minute and found the exact same thing, I had to lower it waaayyy down before they came back. Oversized ceramic, no problem. Stock ceramic, no problem. Weird. I have not had that issue with any other A8 pickups before or since. Maybe that's why he quit selling them with A8's.

Even with Ceramic it was not as lively as some of my other favorite pickups... other than that little thing though, the pickup was probably my all time favorite. I traded the set off only because I was tired of the double cream look lol... and the pinched harmonic problem.

Re: What is your favorite Bridge humbucker pickup?

Lindy Fralins Pure PAF, Duncan Antiquity JB, Duncan Antiquity PAF. I guess I'm just really into boutique/old school humbuckers. I like getting something made by hand that is unique.

I guess that's why I gravitate toward the Fralins, Lollars, and Antiquities.

EMG 81 for me. Or better yet, EMG 81TW (a splittable 81). It rocks hard, has unreal clarity and 0 muddiness. Perfect.
