Re: What is your "holy grail" amp?

I'd be happy for life with any of the following: Matchless independence, CAA PT/OD100, Soldano SLO, Mesa roadster :smokin:

One of the best and worst questions out there. SLO, Splawn and Mesa Mark tones have always been the best to me.

Re: What is your "holy grail" amp?

i love my dual rec, but a mark v and a rockerverb 100 are in my future. distant future but still

Re: What is your "holy grail" amp?

Another vote for SLO, make mine with KT88's please. Mark IIC+ and model T are close.

I'm happy with my Mark III and Butcher though.

I want this amp so badly right now:

It's a 5e3 style amp (6v6 cathode biased, 2 volumes, 1 tone, etc.), but with tighter low end, more linear volume sweep and a bit more headroom. I've been on a Fender kick (all I've been playing is my SF Vibrolux Reverb) and this is going to be my next amp. There's nothing quite like the feel of a good Fender amp and that's what this thing does. I like the tweed snarl and midrange thing, but to have it hold together better at higher volumes would be great. Once I sell the Bogner, my Vox and my PRSi, it will be mine.

YES!!! me too!

Anything tweed really for me. Something fat-sounding, clean sounds wrapped in bacon for that extra snarl - plenty of life and harmonics - very old school. Something that accepts pedals really well but sounds unbelievable on its own too. Something with a decent amount of headroom but can scream as well.

I wish I had more experience with Fender brownface and blonde amps too....

Re: What is your "holy grail" amp?

category 5 has some tasty offerings. the 1900 i played was sick. SICK! it was like the loudest 50w marshall ive ever played with a fuzz face nailed to the front with the insanity knob turned up. it made my strat with surfers sound fatter than my buddies les paul into his 2204.

Re: What is your "holy grail" amp?

I like the way you think!

Ridiculous amp - perfect break up threshold for me at a manageable volume, twin 10" JBLs for the punch, sexy as hell. I've played a 6G6-B Bassman quite a bit and it's too much in the low end for my taste - the Tremolux is perfectly balanced IMO.

I assume you've seen this:

Get his album if you don't have it.

Re: What is your "holy grail" amp?

The brownface Tremolux is a smokin amp...I like the browns best of all Fenders but the Tremolux is special...you're right about the headroom.

Bassmans are super cool and have a great grind but are loud and can be boomy and Bandmaster have the killer vibrato but the Tremolux is money.

I'll have to pass on the JBL's in mine but I hear ya on the punch part!

I'll have one, one day but today ain't the day...truth is I wish sometimes my brown Deluxe wasn't as loud as it is!

Ampeg V-9:

...and it's matching cabinet:

Ampeg B12XTC. It was a Portaflex guitar amp. Basically a 4x12 version of this:

Here it is, though this one appears to be missing a few parts from the top:

For me, either a Mesa Lonestar Special, or a Mark V. Maybe one of the new Express + amps, but I have yet to actually play one, so I can't say.
