What is your main Tube Amp?

Re: What is your main Tube Amp?

My one and only it's a ENGL Thunder 50 combo. Three chanels (Clean, crunch and lead) Gain, basic eq (treb, mid and bass), spring reverb, lead and crunch channel vol (same knob :( ) and master vol. Also has FX loop and cabinet option. Simple and great sounding!!! :)

Re: What is your main Tube Amp?

Marshall JCM 800 2204 w/6l6 in the power Section together with a Mesa V-Twin.

Re: What is your main Tube Amp?

Marshall DSL 401, but its on the move soon, to be replaced by Brow's Laney AOR Protube 100 head.

Re: What is your main Tube Amp?

Man, there are some nice amps here....and some lucky guys.

My two main amps are:

JCM 800 - 4212 (2205 circuit). Completely modded by Jeff Seal to be PTP wiring. It's very, very nice.

Fender Blues Jr - great little blues amp.

Re: What is your main Tube Amp?

Right now I have three amp set ups - they each kind of do a different thing.

Soutone 18 watt 1x12 combo amp (handwired touret board) mini marshall - best rock sound I've ever had - I used this amp at a gig last night and played with a smile on my face the entire time, loved it.

Mojo 30 - this is a handwired 30 watt head based on the matchless DC30 rectified channel - incredible chime and bottom end, I got this for a steal along with a Two Rock 1x12 cabinet, with the SSH setup on my guitar I can go from sweet jangly clean tone with the singles to a good rock bite with the HB with the flip of a switch. I almost feel bad about what I paid for this rig but the guy felt he was getting a good deal so all's fair. I'm going to check an an Xotic AC booster pedal out this week, should be the answer to my need for a heavier crunch with this amp.

Vox TonelabSE pedal board, Peavey Classic 50/50 tube stereo power amp, Avatar 2x12 cabinet wired up for stereo/mono operation (V30/G12H30) having the stereo cab allows me to dial in a little more of the V30 or G12 depending on the dynamics of the room I'm playing in. The vox is incredible, easy to program and with the tube power amp driving the 2x12 cabinet there is no drummer I need to be concerned with. The amp sims and effects on the tonelabe are top notch, excellent response to picking attack and everything sounds analog - no fizzy digital crap.

That's it for now - gas will strike again, the little 18 watter I'll keep everything else could easily go in the event I found something I had to have!!!

1994 Bogner Ecstasy!

It's amazing to me that you've got the exact same amp as mine. They're both the best Ecstasys ever made, both from 94, when most of them were going to guys like VH, Cantrell, G Lynch, Queensryche, Bob Rock, Satriani, Vai, and other name players. It's amazing that one of those fully loaded white chassis metalfronts made it's way all the way over to you. I wonder who was the original owner??? The new Ecstacys are stripped of half the features on the back. Ours have cabinet assigning, Hotplate loop, A/AB, and mixable FX loop. Email Bogner and find out which number yours is. I think mine is #138 from 94. They used Greek symbols as serial numbers on those early ones, so you've got to find out from Bogner what the actual serial number is.

Is it safe to say that the 1994 Bogner is a better amp than the ones built today?

They're all circuit board amps, which probably have the same primary circuit, but the one's with the back and top of their chassis painted white were the original brainchildren of Reinhold Bogner. He had them loaded with every feature he could pack into the thing. Once they went into full production in the late 90's, they made the metal grill on the front an upcharge option, the back was painted black, and the only features were halfpower, speaker outs, and FX loop. They took off the Class A/AB option, Hotplate loop, FX loop send and return knobs, and cabinet assigning. It's really no big deal to me, since I never really use those options, but the original Ecstacys are truly the most amazing EL-34 amps ever designed. Reinhold is a design genious!
He started out by rebuilding Marshalls, and ended up with an amp that was like a dream for Marshall enthusiasts.

I first saw one at Make'n'Music in North Hollywood in 96, played through it, and the thing blew me away to the point where I couldn't get it out of my mind for years. It was just WAY too expensive! Then one day, as I was scanning www.recycler.com I came across one and got the guy to commit to $2175, even though he wanted $2600. I scraped the money together as fast as possible, and listed all my amps for sale that day. A few months later, I bought the 4-12 for $725 used, and a couple years later aquired the 2-12 cab, as well as a canefront headshell. If I lost everything in life, my vehicle and my Bogner would be the only things I'd never ever sell.

Yes it's truly amazing. I consider myself a lucky SOB every day, lol.
Do you happen to have the e-mail adress of Bogner? I can't find it anywhere on their site. I tried to seach up the symbols in an encylopedia (sp?) but had no luck deciphering.

I'm not shure about the original owner but the guy I bought it from told me that it came from Germany. I don't remember the exact city (I think it was Frankfurt) but it has to be from either some sort of European Namm show or perhaps a US military base?
I didn't ask any further because this dude was selling it for 1500 because he wanted to go on a holiday. I can only hope that it wasn't stolen or something.
He also said that he liked his soldano rackmount better.

I had the local amp guru check it, clean it up (it had dirt, fingerprints and dust all over it and even a spiderweb in the inside!) and set it up with some fresh tubes. (svetlana =C=) He was amazed that the amp was 10 years old and in mint condition! The thing is a tone monster! I originally wanted to buy a Mesa Dual recto but this amp gives me much better tones in the range of clean to massive distortion crunch and anything inbetween.
I suppose I have to thank you a little Gearjoneser because if you hadn't been raving about your XTC all the time I wouldn't have known about Bogner at all! :burnout:
