Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

Well, I don't know, I won't boss him around because he's already given me a pretty big discount on the guitar just so I could afford it.. And I'm eternally grateful for it.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

I think it will cost too much, I don't think I can afford it, I could of course always ask him but I don't wanna seem like an ******* towards him when he already gave me a big discount.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

How much is that guy charging for the pickup? Cause one of the forum members here, Lew sells pickups. You could get one at only $75 total, if thats a okay price for you. I don't think you tech would mind if you sent the pickup to him. It's your guitar, so you should find the right pickup for you and not be limited to the three.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

Well, it's alright, I actually wanted the JB bridge all along, but just had a minor doubt, but I have decided that I'll either stick with the JB/Jazz combination as originally planned, or a JB/Full Shred combination.

Can anyone tell me what tubes the JCM 900 4501 50 watt combo has?

Depends on the year..Thats a Dual Reverb..early ones had El34s...then 5881s.

Good news for us JCM900 MkIII owners. If you don't have the handbook, like me since I got it used, I contacted Korg U.S.A.'s product support and the guy who handled my email sent me a copy of the handbook from the archives. He copied the pages on a copier and sent me those. I plan on scanning them in to a .pdf file for my page.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

Cool, Erik, It could get handy for me too, sometime in the future.

And JeffB - Well, I do not know what year it is, but it's the amp you heard in the pickup thread I had (you know, you heard a JB through a Marshall). I do not know so much about each tubes distinctive sound, but experienced people like you and others here, can probably determine just by the sound which of the tubes are used in this. The reason why I ask is because I just wanted to kind of have an idea about the sound I'm gonna get from my Marshall.

On another note - the seller sent it out today, so I'll probably get it later this week, but it'll have to just stand there and look beautiful for a while, until I can afford a 1936 cab for it :)

Oh thats the amp from the clips you posted? To me it sounded like El34s..crunchy...crackly..not as tight and defined as a 5881 (which is more like a 6l6 and pretty much is the european version of such if I'm not mistaken). However, that thing was not cranked either...that was mostly pre-amp gain, so I wouldn't bet one of my guitars on it..but I'm fairly certain. I wish my DR sounded that good. Mine was a muddy mess with no "thump".

EDIT: clarification: The first two clips sounded more El34 like. The last clip..the real high gain one...coulda gone either way...

You can expect a very similar sound with your amp..liikely more punchy/ballsy/better.

I thought so that it was EL34 tubes.. Since you posted the '59 clips which had some of the same sound (and that was from an old Marshall, right?), and if the sound from those '59 clips is the classic Marshall sound, well then these must almost be EL34.. But you know more about it than me, I'm just basing this on logic, not on knowledge :)

But how my amp will sound opposed to this I have no idea, I like this sound, and if my amp is similar, or EVEN better (as people obviously say) then I think I'm in for a treat. But people like Erik or theodie will be able to answer this question, (unless you have heard it also, JeffB).

On another note - for those interested, Erik said he would be able to make some soundclips of his JCM 900 2100 Hi Gain Master volume head this coming weekend. Then we'll actually have some sound clips to compare it to  And people in the future will have some clips to listen to, if they stumble upon a similar amp.

They will be able to answer it better as I've not played a 900 in many years. However, I think it's safe to say the simpler amp (the 2XXX) will sound more "Marshally", open, and ballsy than the 4XXX DR's with it's simpler circuit. The DR's are a bit thinner thats relative though)

Cool, thanks.

I like you, you're a good help, even though I still don't agree about your "la la la, I can't hear you" theory about me :laugh2:

But you seem kinda interested in Marshall's, maybe it's time for you to go back to one?? :)

Like you're trying to get me to install low output buckers, I'll get you to play Marshall's again :laugh2:

I've played & owned more marshalls than I'd care to admit  (makes me cry thinking about all the $).I still own a Marshall (1987X)..though its out of commission. My Rivera is basically a modded Marshall. Problem is, and it's not just Marshall... tube amps HAVE to be cranked. I dont have the luxury of being able to do that these days where I live. Otherwise I'd get my 1987X fixed, grab a goose, run it through a 4x12 cab with greenie 25s and be happy as a pig in $hit :D Gibson's and Marshalls are "home" for me.

I'm looking into something though right now that is from Marshall too, along with some boutique copies.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

I can tell ya, the MkIII 2100/2500 sound better than the Dual Reverbs. This is just my opinion though. They have more gain available that's for sure, but they also are very open and "Marshally" like Jeff said. You're gonna love it.

Re: what jcm 900 model is this? - any good?

That's cool Erik.. Glad to hear, but your clips will probably show it much better than words. But of course it depends on what recording gear you own. So, what do you wanna record with??

Sorry to hear you can't live out your dream currently :) And about the thing you said, don't worry, I didn't really get offended because I know it's not true.
