What Kind Of Guitar Strap/Straps Do You Play With?

Re: What Kind Of Guitar Strap/Straps Do You Play With?

Levy's extra long 2" woven. I need the length as I have long arms.

I only play at home so I seldom use a strap. My favorite is a 30 year old Fretsling strap. Fretsling straps are curved and fit over the shoulder better than a straight strap. I also have a leather Levy's strap with strap locks on it.

I use various leather straps. Most 3" wide, but one that's a bit narrower...each guitar gets one that's matched to it's look.

I still have my very first strap...a nylon one with the SIT logo on it from 1986 or so.

Re: What Kind Of Guitar Strap/Straps Do You Play With?

I have a ton of nylon straps laying around, but I have since converted to leather. I like the cling of leather - the guitar stays where I put it.

I never really noticed how just how easily nylon slide over clothing until I tried a leather strap.

Then I realized that much of my fatigue while I was playing was coming from me trying to hold the guitar in position (nylon straps let it move around - neck dive city!). With a leather strap, I can focus my energy into playing instead of holding the guitar.

I used to use my leather EB strap I got in the 80's...recently got a nice Couch strap for my LP. Well made and it looks like an old vinyl sofa...

Mine is a 3" leather that I got in the early 80's when i bought a '75 Les Paul Custom. I have others, this is pretty much the only one I use.

Levi's solid color suede straps on almost everything. I do have several extra long straps for the Explorer & the V, mainly because I'm a tall guy and want them to hang in a particular place.

I use Fender strap without the ugly embroidered patches. Great quality, soft and classic look.

It's comfortable, it's durable, and I've never had an issue with them.

I now have this one on my Jaguar:

Feels even safer.

I find that these planet waves locking end straps kick ass on everything else I have with normal strap buttons. NEVER FAILED ME.

I recently bought a beautiful Italian leather strap from a company called Moody Leather. It is Italian leather in and out, 2.5 inch, and the quality is superb. It was expensive, but hey, it's a tax deduction anyway. My only complaint is that their standard length is a little short, but fortunately at full stretch it fits nicely. Simple, high quality, beautifully made and oh so comfortable. Nice.

I keep my Straps on the guitars..... meaning I have a strap on each one. I try to match up the strap to the guitar. Colors & what have you. I prefer a good leather strap (I use a lot of Levy's). I don't like the nylon straps, they slide around too much. I also use a variety of Strap lock techniques to keep them from coming off. I have Shaller locks on some guitars, I use the rubber washer on some & I also have these new Strap buttons that are elliptical in shape so the strap can't slide off.

Tax Deduction?

I play guitar for a living, so straps, strings, cables, pedals, guitars, amps, etc are all tax deductions. I can either give the money to the government or enjoy it. It's a simple decision to make.

Re: What Kind Of Guitar Strap/Straps Do You Play With?

Yeah, it's hard to remember around here, but there are a few people who actually make their living playing guitar and for them, guitar strap = tax deduction.

On my Schecter PT, I have a black leather strap that I've had since around 1984. 2.5" wide I think, and at this point it's the consistency of a cooked lasagna noodle. Until recently, I just switched it back and forth between my two Teles.

When I finished my Esquirized MIM Tele a few weeka ago I splurged on a new strap for it; Levy's suede, also about 2.5" wide. I'd like to say I prefer suede because it stays where I put it on my shoulder, but it really just fits my budget ($0) better.

I found years ago that I prefer a narrow strap, which lets me place the weight where I want it, rather than covering up my whole shoulder. Though, I haven't played a Les Paul in years and my guitars have tended to be moderately light weight.

Years ago, before Dimarzio, et al made nylon straps available in a rainbow of bright colors, I wanted a bright red nylon strap for my then-new white Dean V. I bought a 1" wide 6 ft long nylon dog leash, measured how long I wanted it off some cheap adjustable strap (remember those 70's embroidered things?) and melted a couple strap lock holes through it with a soldering iron. I used that dog-leash strap for years.

I didn't look closely enough at the picture. Mine are all similar to this style, whether they have the Levy's logo or not. I have not tried one with the slide like in the OP.

I use these too for my LP's and Yamaha SG to help distribute the weight and I like the quality. I stick to Levys straps and have a few woven fabric ones too.

Re: What Kind Of Guitar Strap/Straps Do You Play With?

I don't know

I have bought the expensive leather ones but somehow dig the cheapie nylon ones cause they slip around and that seems more comfy to me instead of the leather sticking to my clothes

Re: What Kind Of Guitar Strap/Straps Do You Play With?

I find myself using Franklin leather, Dunlop w/celtic chain or fire, and I'm pretty fond of the Duncan straps with the aged steel S logo..

My only real requirement is that it's got to extend to 52".....the longest I'd ever use it.
