what kind of pick? why?

Re: what kind of pick? why?

Dunlop Tortex .6mm (orange). I used to use the 1.14mm purple ones for acoustic; however, since getting the Taylor, I have been using the orange picks for everything. I used to prefer the heavier picks for acoustic...but that was with the Yamaha guitars I used to play.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

I prefer the Herco Flex .75's. I like nylon picks, for years I used the Dunlop Nylon .88s and 1mm. The Hercos are a bit stiffer than the .88 and have more grippy print on them. I also like the "Cat's Tongue" picks by Brain, but they're really too pricey for how long picks last me.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

I used dulop 1.o (blue) for a long time and then i went tothe pink one which are like .58 or some thing and i loved those but i have recently discovered the dunlop ultex .60 mm and that is what i use now. Why? Well because they have a very crisp attack to them, and they feel right and i just don't like the sound of a thick pick anymore

Re: what kind of pick? why?

I used to play the Dunlop Big Stubby 1.0s, but when I went to my local Music Store last time, I got those Ultex 1.0s (I always get whatever new picks I like to try out for free there) and I must say wow... really nice feel, very good sound... what else would I like -> New weapon of choice

Re: what kind of pick? why?

either fender mediums with about 1 mm of scotch tape wraped around the non-picking end or an obsidian arrowhead that seems to do quite well as a pick

Re: what kind of pick? why?

Fender Heavies. I don't like tracking down specialized picks, and paying more.
Plus, most music stores use that type of pick for their 'store brand' free picks, and they tend to find their way into my pocket.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

I use the non-Tortex Dunlops. The grey ones. .73s.

I lose an average of 2 plectrums a day. This is an off-topic, yet true fact.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

I've got quite a collection of picks
I usually stick to a small number though. My favorites for electric playing are the Dunlop Gator Grip .71 and the Taylor Medium (.73). Sometimes I like to use Dunlop Teckpicks (the brass ones, the aluminium wears out too quick and sounds a bit too thin and bright) for their nice attack and edgy sound. On my acoustic, I usually use the Taylors, or Dunlop Gator Grip .58. I really like the Dunlop Hotlicks .008" copper picks for their bright attack and articulate sound. They have a very specific character. The only trouble is, I can't find then anywhere and only have two left. I'll have to try ordering a few bags...

Re: what kind of pick? why?

Tortex .60mm, the orange ones. Ive switched many times and always come back to them they are my pick of choice!

Re: what kind of pick? why?

1,5mm tortex sharpies. I don't really like "dull" pics as opposed to sharp ones, and I haven't seen other sharp brands in stores around here, not that I've been looking. They seem to last and feel solid in my hand. I might like to try a 1.14 of the same series, though.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

Tortex .73 (yellow) I used Fender heavies for years then switched to the Tortex...the .73 tortex are stiffer than a Fender Med but not as stiff as a Fender heavy and have a quicker attack that Fender picks not to mention they last longer and I happen to like the power coatin on them when they are new.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

Dunlop Nylon Standard Pick

I used .60mm forever, now I use .73mm great grip when I am soaked in sweat, play fast and cheap and I lose them before they wear out.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

I like the dunlop 88's. Nice round tone compared to a standard "fender" type pick and they last a long time. They bend a bit but just a bit. The 73's are too floppy and the 1.0's are too stiff...88's = just right for me.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

Dunlop
1.0- 2.0 depending upon how well I am playing-heavier when things are feeling good-

I've got a philosophy that I've used since reading a Steve Howe interview years ago- He said that he always went with the thickest pick that would do the job as he could always loosen his grip for rhythem. but it's always harder to stiffen the pick for lead- He actually glued credit cards together to get enough thickness-

Re: what kind of pick? why?

They don't make them anymore, but they're the clear yellow Dunlop X-H's. I've got my V strung with .14 - .70's, tuned down to drop G (think drop D down 7 steps), so I don't want no ****in' wimpy flex-mongrel of a pick.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

I found a great source for rare picks at http://www.elderly.com/

They have a huge selection of dunlop picks. I'm going to try out the triangle tortex ones. I assume most use them for bass but I've seen some guitar players use the big triangle ones for guitar too.

Re: what kind of pick? why?

Fender standards, heavy, white. I might give Dunlops a try someday, but I've just always liked the Fenders.
