Came with the neck thru construction?

I know the model 5 and 6 guitars had the neck thru, but not sure what bass model did.. I recently got an old model 2b bass and absolutely freakin LOVE the thing.. Sustains forever and plays so nice. Id like to keep my eyes open for a great used neck thru one, but not sure what model to look for. I always wanted (and still do) a black cherry model 6 guitar.
Thanks!

You may be looking for the 3B, which was a mid-1980s active P/J neck-through.

Re: What model series Charvel Bass??

Thanks!! Did it come in black cherry? Maybe not, but I want a model 6 in black cherry. I am LOVING my model 2! Played it for about 8 hours last night. man, that thing sustains like a banshee.. Awesome.. cant wait to get my fingers strong enough not to get any more farty notes..
A financial thing I thought I had going fell thru so, Ill have to save for one and keep my eyes open for one. is $699 a decent price? any idea what they went for new? I was looking thru some online catalog scans and couldnt find any neck thru bass models, so thats why I asked here. Thanks again for the help!

Re: What model series Charvel Bass??

Jackson guitars were known as pointy shred sticks, but too many players were sleeping on those basses.
Good enough for Mr. Pitchy Dog (Randy Jackson).
I wouldn't have minded one of their 5-string actives, if I had the cheddar at the time.

Re: What model series Charvel Bass??

I don't know if the 3B came in Black Cherry. I want to say yes, because that color was a big hit, along with the pink mist. IIRC, BC was only available on neckthrough models (5 and 6, 3B) for a time.

But the Ebay link I posted is to a Model 6 in BC.

Model 6/650XL prices fluctuate. A few years ago "everyone" wanted a 6/650 in BC and they were going over $1000 on Ebay. I'm actually shocked to see a Floyded Model 6 in BC for under $700 and it's still there.

It's long been my firm belief that any neckthrough Charvel or Jackson in playable condition is worth $1000. It might need paint, it might need a hardware and/or electronics overhaul, but if the frets are in good shape and the wood's not cracked, $1000 is a bargain for a well-made instrument, especially a USA or the early Japan models. When the 1990 Japan/Professional neckthroughs came out, they out-sold the same USA models because they were $1000 cheaper in price but equal in quality. I've owned quite a few of the Japan-made and their USA-made counterparts, and I can attest to that.

The Model 6/650 is basically a 1990 Soloist Pro (or 1994 Soloist XL, with the rosewood board).

Re: What model series Charvel Bass??

Ive been at work so couldnt check the link. i see now (on dinner break) that its a six. Yeah, Im with you that the Japanese model series are awesome! I couldnt afford them when they were new back in the day. also, i remember that many thought they were subpar back in the day cuz they were being made in Japan. Now, they are extremely desirable. Ive had a ouple of model 4s (still have one in black that I need to sell, but cant bring myself to do it.) and had a killer model 5, but was stupid and sold that. I just hope i can find a nice shape one when I get the money.. I LOVE that black cherry. A side note, I ALSO LOVE the old Kramers too, even with the Esp necks and want a stagemaster someday! thanks for the input
