What Neck Pickup?

Re: What Neck Pickup?

Another vote for the Dimarzios, I would use either in the neck. The 36 anniversary would work with a Custom and I prefer it over a Jazz neck.

Thanks! Custom Shop Pearly Gates set.

They did them in double cream for you? You must have gotten them a while ago?
About 8 months to a year ago I emailed them and asked about that being a CS feature and they told me they won’t do that anymore.

Funny you mention the Jazz.
I actually have one but purposely didn’t put it on the list. I bought it as a set with a 59/C hybrid in a black chrome cover. They are just too pretty to remove the covers on. Lol

I bought them from a dealer — JMI Music. They did it for them apparently. But they were wound on November 12, 2018, so maybe they’ve stopped since then.

What Neck Pickup?

The Rebel Yell neck is an amazingly good pickup.

I bought them as a calibrated set some years ago. And they are both still in nickel covers. I’d hate to remove the covers only to find black coils.
I know I could always re solder them back on but still....

I’ll probably end up removing the cover this weekend. Lol

You can usually see bobbin colors without removing the cover if you remove the bobbin screws from the baseplate and look into the holes.

So the bridge SH-5 will be zebra and a double cream BKP in the neck!!

Re: What Neck Pickup?

Ok, surgery done.
Custom in the bridge and Rebel Yell in the neck.

The Custom has a bit of top end sizzle that I need to get used to. The last pickup that was in there had an A8 magnet, so yes....completely different high end response.
I have only played it through my 20W Blackstar and it sounded big even at slightly louder than bedroom levels.
I can’t wait to hear it through the Splawn at band levels. And I’m also curious as to how it will sit in the band mix. Judging from what little I have just heard now, I think it’s going to sound really good.

yeah man, looks great. the sizzle you hear with the custom really helps it cut through but using a lower value pot will tame if it you wanna have it gone

I actually already have 250k pots in that guitar. It’s not an overwhelming sizzle. It’s just different from the Fokin A8 that was in it before.

Just realized...I was playing through a different cab than usual. This one has a WGS vet30/ET65 combo. I’m likely hearing the V30 mids. Also I noticed the screws on the pickup were adjusted all over the place. Probably set up for the previous owners guitar. I adjusted them a bit and that also helped.

Re: What Neck Pickup?

Have you considered the Jazz neck? I'd think it would work well with a LP? I'm not a big fan of the 59. Found it bland and stiff. The Jazz to me is clearer and more articulate.
