What neck pup would pair well with a Screamin' Demon?

Forum bro Trey has convinced me to put my Screamin' Demon into my, (his old), Ibby Iceman. What would pair well with it? I have a 59n laying around here somewhere. Would that be a good match?

Re: What neck pup would pair well with a Screamin' Demon?

I paired it with a DiMarzio Liqifire. Forum Bro Ascension did a nice comparison of the Liqifire and Sentient here.

Just for kicks–the Screamin Demon is an awesome neck pickup. I paired it with a Dimebucker...awesome combo. Might be over the top for what you are looking for–but it was a really cool tone combo.

The Screamin Demon is a super cool pickup, I hope you find you like it!

That's interesting. In your PM, you mentioned pairing it with my Bill & Becky 500XL. That could be cool. Also, maybe pairing it with the El Diablo, since the Dimebucker was a good match.

Edit: I just realized I also have a Jazz neck. That might work well also.

I use a Classic Stack Plus (STK-S4N.)

If you have an HS pickguard/pickguard period. I find it's a good fit to combine with a single.

The Diable would be a cool experiment for sure!

And the Jazz neck would probably be a solid choice.

I could definitely see that.

It's funny you should mention that. Right now the Demon is installed in an HS SG, with a Cool Rails in the neck. But I have an STK-4 in my pup box. The only problem with that is I kinda want to move it to my Iceman, which is an HH axe. But still, a cool idea.

Lynch ran it with an ESP-branded doublerail single.

Did you use it as & when you would a neck pickup, or pretty much as a "second tonal option bridge that just happens to be in the neck" if you know what I mean?

I got a Distortion & Demon pair laying around that I've been intending to install like that for ages, but somehow never get around to it

That could be an interesting combo too. And I have a Distortion in my pup box.

I really don't see pickups as a "neck" vs "bridge" as in "rhythm" vs "lead"; rather, I see it as more of a brighter and warmer tonal option. So, in one sense I didn't personally use it as having two lead pickups. That being said, I think someone could potentially see/hear/use it that way. Not sure if that is what you were asking or not.

I had it in a 1 piece Walnut San Dimas body with a Mahogany+Rosewood Gibson scale neck...miss that guitar.

This is the combo clean:

This is it with gain:

And I'm not trying to hijack Artie's thread–just showing what my combo sounded like with it.

Bridge Dime, then Neck Demon, then middle/both?

Re: What neck pup would pair well with a Screamin' Demon?

You answered the question in your original post. The 59n is a perfect match.

Re: What neck pup would pair well with a Screamin' Demon?

I think the 59 is a good match, too. And hey, you already have one.

Not a hijack at all. Good info.

I guess the logical thing to do is try the one's I have. I've had a Liberator sitting around for quite some time. Sounds like its found a home in my Iceman. I'll start with the 59.

Re: What neck pup would pair well with a Screamin' Demon?

Screaming' Demon/Screamin' Demon is a great combo IMO.

Ditto. I have this setup in my Frankenstrat. Neither position overpowers the other. The middle position is pretty sweet too.

I do like that idea, but I want to stick with pups I have on hand. If I don't like anything I have, that can always be a fall back position.

Re: What neck pup would pair well with a Screamin' Demon?

For you, I'd go with the Jazz because the SD is not as hot as a JB or a DD. I like the 59n with hotter bridge pickups.

I have a SD paired with a JB2 in a ProMod. Great combo. I swapped the poles in the SD so that they are "normal" looking in the neck.

Re: What neck pup would pair well with a Screamin' Demon?

Thanks. I will try the Jazz. I forgot I had it 'til the other day.

Re: What neck pup would pair well with a Screamin' Demon?

I love the 59N and feel it pairs well with just about anything. And I concur about the Demon being great in the neck slot.

But I bet the JazzN will be wonderful paired with a Demon - they share a sort of firmness in the lows.
