What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

Mesa V-Twin. Replaced a whole Rack when I got it. Although the rack was already gone at that time :laugh2:

I DO have an SD Pickup booster lying around SOMEWHERE, though..... ;)

I have a collection. Fulltone Fulldrive II, Reverend Drivetrain and an original Marshall Guv'nor are the main ones. I also use a TS9, DS-1 plus a Voodoo Lab overdrive for clean boost.

My G2D has the old 'goo copyright' as well. A pedal-fiend friend of mine knows a tech who can safely remove the goo, though. He's had it done on this obscure fuzz he found so it can be replicated...

Yeah, I have visions of some pedal nerd digging the circuit out with an exacto knife, just to find the values of each component. I'm sure a few Klons,
Fulldrives, and G2D's have been destroyed, trying to uncover the circuit.
Banzai has been accused of stealing the Klon's circuit for their Coldfusion.
I've had them next to each other and they have the same style, but different tones. The Klon is smooth and singing, while the Coldfusion is fat and crunchy. The secret to those pedals is that the gain pot is a stacked pot,
so the OD is overdriving two different parts of the circuit at once, then summing to the output. That's what gives some of these SS pedals that tube tone.

By the way...Has anyone bought one of those Aramat pedals I keep seeing on Ebay? Like the Green Machine? The most interesting OD pedal I've seen lately, and want, is made by a Japanese designer called the Tacky Drive.
They cost $300, but look like the most awesome OD I've ever seen.

This is true. Rather ingenious if you ask me. Anyway, if you have a great set-up, this pedal does nothing but enhance the gain and increase the volume. It really is a great pedal - expensive though $$$.

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

does anyone know anything about the new MXR Zakk Wylde overdrive pedal?
im thinkin its just the boss SD-1 but more expensive. any opinions? just wondering. :saeek:

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

Probably too many. I currently use a Rat Vintage, MXR Dist.+, Tubescreamers TS-9 and TS-5 (both modded), DS-1 (modded), and SD-1 (modded), plus I also throw either a Fuzzface or Big Muff in there once in a while.
But I agree with those who like to use the overdrive in their amps as this approach gives me the cleanest distortion I can get, BUT, it's pretty loud when I go there so I rely more on the pedals at lower volumes. Some of these pedals, like the TS-9 and Dist.+, I like to use together sometimes for just a bit more crunch. The RAT is another one I like to use with "booster" type pedals like the TS-9.

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

i use a boss md2 and find it a cool stombox for really warm versatile distortion...

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

My Amp covers a ton of distortion ground, so the only distortion pedal I currently own is a Fulltone Fulldrive2. It love this pedal. GREAT overdrive, versitile, and easy to use. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for anything in the TS-808 tone range.

I'm thinking about branching out and getting something with more gain. I played through the Fulltone DP-1 and was floored by it. Mike Fuller is one bad mother...

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

I have a new Boss OD 3 for smoother jazzfusion, and a Rat 2 from the late -80s for the really heavy stuff. I use the Boss OD 3 only for the softer stuff, and have discovered it sounds very much like when I played with an old Strat through an old Fender Bassman on really high volumes in the early 1970s. So if that´s the sound they have tried to mimic, they have succeded.
