I listened to Voodoo child last night for the first time in 30 or so years. Major flashbacks :laugh2: anyway the wah is obvious but what else was in his aresenal.

Vox Wah
Roger-Mayer Octavia
Arbiter Fuzz Face
Uni-Vox Uni-Vibe (w/ expression pedal)
Marshall 100w Super Lead Plexi
Marshall 4x12 cabs (w/ J.B. Lansing120F-6 speakers)

He generally played with 1-2 full stacks on stage.

His fuzz tone changed between the 60s and 70s. I'm not too sure why (change in pedal, or change in settings?)

Re: What pedals/effects did Jimi use

Jimi used a Vox Clyde McCoy Wah Wah and Roger Mayer custom built and tweaked all of his Fuzz Faces. I think Fulltone makes the best sounding Fuzzface I've ever heard: the '69 Pedal. And also the best wah wah I've ever heard: the Clyde or Clyde Deluxe.

When I put those two Fulltone pedals together, the '69 into the Clyde Wah, it sounds just like Jimi.

For Jimi's Octavia sounds, I like the Prescription Electronics "Experience" pedal. I have one and Eric Johnson uses one for that spitty sounding reverse octave effect too. It's a cool tone...once in a while. It's a difficult pedal to learn though...

Jimi's chorus effect was the Uni-Vibe. Sounds like a Leslie Cabinet...which is what SRV used to get that effect: a real Leslie Cabinet.

A friend gave me an old Leslie cabinet he found beside a trash dumpster but I haven't got it working yet. It's pretty clean and all there but the wiring is a little torn up.

Cool I have to try and make some of those sounds. I have a Vox coming from John. This is really fun just noodling around trying to sound like one of my heros. Keeps me practicing. :burnout:

Oh man...Bruce and I found a tweed Fender Tremolux amp at the dump once! We had to "steal" it to get it out of the dump as salvaging is not permitted.

My buddy AJ uses a Dunlap Wah Wah that the same guy who gave me the Leslie cab found in a dumpster! I fixed it for him and he uses it regularly.

It's amazing the things rich people and rich college students throw away!

Isn't that an oxymoron? :laugh2:

I went to college with a ton of Japanese exchange students. The Yen versus dollar made it incredibly cheap for them to live in the U.S.

It was a pretty normal occurence after the finished their four years for them to pack a gym bag and leave behind everything they'd bought. Were talking skis, bicycles, televisions, PlayStations, cameras, stereos.......
