IM kind of torn between guitar picks! haha i know it sounds retarded and all but i can't seem to settle down on one gauge of pick.

What do you guys use and why? Does it double for electirc and acoustic work as well?

Right now i am kind of settling for the .88 green tortex picks becase i like the solid feel for my electric, and its ok for acoustic. I wnata evrsatile pick for everything!

So what do you guys use and why?

Re: What Pick and why?

2.0mm Dunlop Gator. I like my picks like I like my womans, fat & grippy.

Re: What Pick and why?

I'm in the same boat. I can't decide between the red, and the orange Dunlop tortex picks. I also like the Ultex picks, but the gauges are kinda limited; not as much selection as other styles offered by Dunlop.

Re: What Pick and why?

Electrics: Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm. They feel best in my hands, the tone is just right with the rest of my setup, and they wear long and play hard. I´m testing the Sharp version right now, but I think I´ll go back to standard pretty soon, I´m not convinced yet.

Acoustics: Dava Control with the Delrin tip. Very similar feel to the Tortex, but with even more control over the pick for expressiveness on acoustic.

FWIW, I string Electrics with 12-52 in standard and acoustics with 13-58 ;)

Re: What Pick and why?

The Green "Dava Control" picks, because the store was out of my .73 Dunlop nylons.

Re: What Pick and why?

Well, I used to only play with my fingers. Thumb, index, and middle. Now that I've rediscovered the joys of a pick, I'm back to 'em.

On electric I use a Heavy Fender Celuloid pick, and a medium HardRock Cafe pick.
On acoustic I use a Light Fender California for strumming, and the medium HardRock for picking.

I've been able to perfect the switch between one pick to another by holding one in the palm of my hand while I play, and switching back and forth. My string gauges are are the same as Zerbs, except I play a .054 on my E string of the electrics.

Re: What Pick and why?

I use .88mm Green Tortex from Dunlop on electrics. On acoustics, I like lighter picks.

Re: What Pick and why?

surf picks jack grissel jazz pick you can really dig into the notes with these picks they get a great smooth warm tone out of em and have a very long life.

Re: What Pick and why?

Orange tortex for electric, purple tortex for acoustic. And depending on what I'm playing, I use the point or one of the rounded edges.

Re: What Pick and why?

Dunlop Jazz III's - because I'm used to them now and any normal pick now feels huge to me :laugh2:

Re: What Pick and why?

After trying a lot of different picks I think I've settled on the Ibanez 1mm Celluloids. I like the Paul Gilbert signatures the best because they are a little smaller and rounder. Other than that they are basicly the same. Celluloid has a nice warm tone IMHO and stays grippy under sweaty conditions.
I just ordered a pack of Fender heavy celluloids too see if I like them, since the Ibanez picks have been discontinued :yell:

Re: What Pick and why?

I've actually kind of become used to sing heavier picks on ym acoustic now. Its not that bad actually its alot louder.

guitarslinger do you use those 1mm pciks for acoustics as well?!?
Yes. Ultex works great for electric and acoustic. Awesome attack and bite. The string feedback through the pick is unmatched IMHO. They never wear down and no matter how hard I try I cannot break one. :22:

Re: What Pick and why?

I like the Pickboy picks as well, but mainly the Fender Celluoid picks...why you ask? They come in lots of cool colors.

Re: What Pick and why?

I mainly use Purple 1.14 Tortex Jazz III's and Yellow .73mm for playing, thats my pick about 90% of the time. I also liek to use .60s for strumming and more rhythmic playing too. I also have this brass pic that i like for all the weird little scrapes and chirps it gets out of the strings.
