What picks/stings are everybody using?

JB_From_Hell

Jomo's Nimions
I use a ton of different picks, but if I had to choose one, it'd be the 1.14mm purple Tortex, standard shape.

I put D'addario 10-52 on everything, but I want to try their 11-52 set. The exception is my 7 string, which gets the 10-59 set.

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

jazz 3 and eb pink bits packet. I am going to change soon. the strings anyway. aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

Dunlop Ultex .73mm and depending on the guitar Ernie Ball Cobalt in 9-46 or 10-52

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

D'addario .010-.052 XL's on electrics, Cleartone .011-.049 Phosphor Bronze on acoustic.

picks are Dunlop Ultex .90mm Sharp.

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

I've been playing the .73 yellow Tortex for years. I've also used Ernie Ball Slinkys and D'Addario XL for ever too. Gauges .010-.046 for standard, .011-.049 for Eb on electric and D'Addario Phospohor Bronze .012s and .013s for acoustic.

Lately though, I've been playing Martin Lifespan for acoustic and Elixir .009-.046 (E) and .010-.049 (Eb) on electric. I'm appreciating the ease of playing light strings and low action. ;)

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

For picks I use either Gravity acrylics or Gold Series, depending on the guitar (Stealth and Sunrise shapes in 2.5/3mm Big Mini size). For strings I've recently switched most of my guitars from Thomastik-Infelds to the German Optima brand (electrics get MaxiFlex .010-.046, except for one Tele that gets their nickel flat wounds - .010-.049; my acoustic gets their Acoustic golds - .012-.054). Optima's are incredibly nice strings... I consider them the best guitar strings you can get.

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

Dunlop Tortex .50mm (Red) picks for years, but I have to admit that I'm still looking for the "perfect" strings. Anyone know of any that cost like $3.00 a set, last for 12-18 months, never break and never go out of tune? :cool2:

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

Gator grip .96mm and Elixir 10-46. I don't know how you guys can do Ultex. They're WAY too bright for my tastes.

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

Actually, sometimes I like the Ultex picks on the big Dreadnaught to add back some crispness if the strings are getting worn.

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

EB 11-48 in the purple pack for the feel of the strings against my fretting fingers, rather than anything to do with tension. I just like the way they feel the same that way, no matter what guitar I put them on. Picks are the red Jazz llls.

actually the 10-46 set on a 25.5 scale guitar

yeah, i first bought them due to dimebag wannabe short phase, but damn, i felt in love with those strings, they bite in your fingers like a 12-52 set, but the control and tone totally worths the extra soar on the fingers, really clear, not as bright as d'addarios pro steels, but with more clarity (somehow) and a nice low end crunch, on how much life time they had, well, similar to cleartones and elixir, maybe a little more, as the plain strings doesn't caught rust as quickly (my hands are really sweaty and my sweat is very corrosive), if i played something different from metal and rock i would use elixir or cleartones, as their tone doesn't gets along with lesser agressive music, like jazz

on the picks, i will hardly change those for anything else, they feel right, i don't need to scratch them for extra grip thanks to their surface, and they don't wear so easely, almost two months and there is absolutely no wear on my main pick

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

Gibson Vintage Reissues on some guitars and Bright Wires on others. Typically 10-48.

Dunlop Tortex Jazz IIIs. I bought a bunch in every gauge to try out and I've lost track of which one I favoured. I think it's 90-something.

Dunlops cost about 5 and for me have had a life of around 3-4 months before they break. I don't know if anybody makes a set that can last a year.

Dunlop Heavy Core 11-50's. Ultex Jazz III 2.0's (the black ones). Tune down a half step and drop tune when needed.

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

D'Addario XLs (Gauge depends on tuning), and Dunlop Jazz III blacks. The strings I experiment a bit with (I love the EB M-Steels for recording, but they're about 2.5x the price of a pack of d'addarios), but I never vary from my Jazz IIIs. Easily my favorite picks.

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

fender nps .10s
fender california clear thin picks

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

D'Add .09 or .10 for electric

Elixer .11 nonos on acoustic

various orange, yellow and green dunlop picks...usually orange.

Re: What picks/stings are everybody using?

I've got a cookie jar full of picks. HUNDREDS. :D But generally I am using the fender 346 white heavy rounded triangles ,...sometimes a herco flex .75, or a red jazz III.

Finally gave up trying a zillion different strings and went back to Ernie Ball Classic Slinky. 10s.
