Re: what pickup? death metal sound :P

i would of thought youd want less bass for lower tuning to keep the sound tight and not mushy and flabby

Re: what pickup? death metal sound :P

DD... Dime... maybe an X2N or an EMG81/85

I know you said no actives but why not?

Since you already have an Invader, give it a shot. Do you happen to know what kind of wood the guitar is made of?

Re: what pickup? death metal sound :P

Invader would give you that. i get great results from Screamin Demon/ CC as well...

Re: what pickup? death metal sound :P

My suggestions try the Invader first, then the Distortion, then the JB
If you might want something a little more inexpensive, but still great quality, then try the Bill Lawrence L-500XL awesome Metal pick-up.

i got a JB and use it for dropC. growls like a mofo. i think the distortion would be even better. many like the invader for drop tuning, but i dont know about it. i'd have to use it myself to give ya a better idea about it, the dimebucker sure sounds like a good choice too

Re: what pickup? death metal sound :P

I used to use a JB for drop C and it sounded great. Very bassy and chunky sounding, lots of harmonics, ect

I ended up switching to an EMG 85 as it was more percussive and had a tighter rhythm sound to it, yet was still very bassy, though not quite as chunky, and good harmonics.

I can't speak on the other pickups, but I can say that the JB is an excellent choice for drop tuning.
