I am not familiar w/ D'marzios, and I know this is the SD Forum, and by all means , I don't mean to offend anybody, no disrespect,
But since I am fairly new in the world of Humbuckers, I have experienced SD, Gibsons, WCR's, but never a D'imarzio, always looking
for the sweet Highs scooped Mids, Airy , and thight Bass, not hi-ouput, to go on an SG .......

Thank you !

There isn't a DiMarzio that sounds anything likE a 59 to me...

DiMarzio has very few PAF offerings in general but none of them really have the tone of a SD 59.

Re: What pickup in the Dimarzio line, would sound close or like the 59's ???

Can anyone experience the 36th Anniversary and care to described them?... I am Curious about them....

Re: What pickup in the Dimarzio line, would sound close or like the 59's ???

Dimarzio has two pickups for their take on a PAF: One is the Air Classic and the other is the 36th anniversary. I have not used a 36th, but the Air Classic is a gem. They are both A5 like the 59, but the Air Classic has a weaker magnetic field by virtue of the air gap between the magnet and the poles without using a A2 magnet and congesting the mids. It sounds and plays its own kind of great. Not exactly like the 59 which also sounds and plays great IMO. After all, what is the "correct" PAF sound? The Air Classic can give you this:

There is no problem at all discussing other pickup manufacturers here. Its good to have a comparison, but it reckon you'll get more info over at the dimarzio forum. I do have a question tho: if you like the 59's, why don't you just get another set for your sg?

I've played the 36th and the 59's side by side. They are really 2 different flavors of PAFs. The 36th PAF is more articulate but still very warm sounding. The 59 is a bit warmer and muddier (don't take that as a negative). I like them both but I'm partial to the 36th PAFs. It's fair to say that it's probably my favorite PAF from the big guys.

I'm with Christian, most of the Dmz. offerings are more modern sounding.

That said, the old Dmz PAF model was the closest i had heard. Even that pickup didn't nail it, it was kinda generic.

Aha right. i kinda jumped to the conclusion that you liked 59's cos of this:
sweet Highs scooped Mids, Airy , and thight Bass, not hi-ouput,
which pretty much describes 59s to a "T" to me.
However, its always different strokes for different folks, so if you tell us the kind of amp you are using, and some of the sounds of your favourite players that you'd like to approximate, perhaps the forum bros can help steer you in the right or different direction (even tho it might just turn out that a pair of 59s is perfect for you).

I play Blues, Blues Rock trough Fender Blues Junior and Hot Rod Dlx, Omega Modded, pedals, Ethos OD and 57 Wampler and and delay. Players I do like , ,well Allman Bros, Govermen Mule,, and this guys played mostly LP's......

Re: What pickup in the Dimarzio line, would sound close or like the 59's ???

In PAF's, the 59, Pearly GAtes, A2P, the Seth, and the DiMArzio PAF, PAF 36th, , and The Gibson BB 1/2's, and 57 Classics are all in the same ballpark, but definitely different players.

I personally prefer the DiMarzio PAF to the 59, but the 59 is a fine pickup too. I could play either and not care. I'd play Pearly Gates before either a PAF or 59.

Re: What pickup in the Dimarzio line, would sound close or like the 59's ???

I like how the dimarzio has a "cleaner" tone.

THAT. Seems to take to all kinds of guitars well, too, what with it being designed as an aftermarket LP neck pup, but also showing up in production model Fender Strats' bridge positions a lot

Re: What pickup in the Dimarzio line, would sound close or like the 59's ???

i have used the dimarzio PAF pro for years and, like the 59, they both use an A5 magnet. the PAF pro has quite a bit of mids and gets a bit muddy with chords. i haven't used a 59 yet. i have antiquity 2 jazzmaster pickups (alnico 5) that sound way better than the dimarzio.

Re: What pickup in the Dimarzio line, would sound close or like the 59's ???

Yeah. Dimarzios and Duncans are apples and oranges, but I would vote Air Classics as well. I prefer them over the 59s,.which have thin sounding high e and b string , and a hard bass frequency in the bridge, and a very boomy neck tone.
