Old thread, I know. But I've played resonator guitars for years, have a nice National Tricone, have owned and tried some pickups, and have done some research into amplifying my resonators.
The National Slimline gets good reviews, as does the Lace Ultra Slim.
The other good one is the Flatbucker: http://www.flatbucker.com/index.php/en/flatbucker-en
All of these get very good reviews. I wouldn't put a P90 or humbucker in a resonator.
I had a National with a P90 and didn't care for the bright clanky tone at all.
The pickups in the video above sound much better.
Contact microphones like the Schatten also sound clanky. Just not a pleasant sound.

I agree. A P90 or a humbucker would not work well. I would prefer a microphone any day for a resonator, but in a live situation this is rather difficult. Although, Jerry Douglas frequently uses a large diaphragm condenser in live Bluegrass shows, I'd hate to be his sound guy. Everyone, I know who uses a pickup on a resonator or banjo uses an eq pedal to tame the biting highs.

It's gotta be through a Marshall Major, man. Mic'ing just won't cut it for that. I'd recommend the El Diablo. There's one in the Trading Post right now.
