What pickups does the guitar player from stratovarius use?

you mean timo tolkki? i got no idea what he's got in his guitars...

i'm actually more interested what emmpu (nightwish guitarist) has got in his washburn.. to me it sounds like a JB bridge, but no idea what he's got in the neck.. it doesnt sound like my '59, but it is a bit similar to my ears.. =P

anyone here knows more about it?

In Finland we call power metal "Kikkelihevi" (**** metal... it sounds funnier in finnish...)

Man, i laughed my ass off when i was reading an issue of Guitar World the other day. There was some stuff about Tolkki getting stabbed in Spain. They called Tolkki a "Finnish prog-rock legend", which he certainly isn't. What the hell does Stratovarius have to do with prog-rock???

I read that Timo uses mostly EMG's in his signature ESP guitars but he does have at least one that was equipped with Duncans. He just didn't say which models.

He said that ESP are making him a custom model... like a signature axe, but he ain't famous enough for endorsement... and it will be equiped with Duncans.

Though he didn't say which, and i've been trying to find out for a while... including a couple of posts on here. But to no avail...

I love his rhythm sound on the 'Elements pt1' album... kicks ass. It's got beef, but sounds powerful without over-the-top distorsion.

Great tone.

Timo Tolkki has never used Duncans. At first Stratovarius's album he used DiMarzio D-Activator set. Next three albums were recorded with EMG 81 (b. & n.). Then he returned to DiMarzio. Some albums were recorded with DiMarzio Bluesbucker(neck) and DiMarzio Distirtion Evolution Bridge(brirdge). Now he probably uses a D-Activator set again. And what about a new guitarist of Stratovarius I don't know what pickups he used.

I know he uses ESP M guitars so alder body superstrats if that is any use. can't say i know about pickups.

He uses TB-4 in the bridge and Sh-2n in the neck
