What pickups for EBMM sub1?

I recently purchased an EBMM sub1 guitar. It plays awesome, but the pickups really aren't doing it for me. I play mostly rock and classic rock with a little 80's/90's metal thrown in. I am looking for something with a bit more punch and a nice fat tone. What would you recommend?

I'll leave the pup recommendations for others, but that is my favorite EB axe. Nice clean design. Especially the single bridge model.

It is the 2 HB model, but I agree, it is a great axe and a steal at $400 brand new from GC.

I just put a PGn and Duncan Custom combo in my twin humbucker Strat and I'm really enjoying it! My favorite neck pickup and one of my favorite bridge pickups too...the Custom is like an alnico 5 paf (like the 59B) but with more mids and more output. So far, I'm really liking this combo.

Isn't the duncan custom ceramic and not alnico 5? Were you thinking of the custom 5 (sh-14)?

i use a CC and an APH1 in my Silo Special. It sounds great!

The custom is ceramic, but it doesn't sound REALLY "ceramic". Thats one of the reasons why I like that pickup...

Other than that, I got a JB in my EBMM, and I really like that one too. The custom is probably the better choice though...Just remember to get one in tremspacing .

It is a hardtail, does it still need trem spaced pickups?

My EBMM Axis pickups aren't tremspaced, from what I can tell. Neither the Floyd model, nor the vintage trem. Unless I'm way off-base.

I've got a trem spaced Evolution that is spaced noticeably wider than those other two pickups, and it lines up in my Charvel perfectly.

I've never measured everything, but I'd be shocked if I was wrong. Especially on the Axis guitars, where the strings are sooooo close together.

Off topic, but if EBMM made a guitar like the Steve Morse model, but with a maple neck, and no pickguard, I'd be all over it like white on rice. I love their version of the "Strat" shape on the Morse.

The sub1 comes with 250K pots. If I were going to install a PG/CC combo, should I keep the same pots or change them for 500K pots?

Wouldn't a JB work really well with your 250k pots? I believe those are the pot values the JB was originally intended for.
