what pickups should i put in my les paul

Re: what pickups should i put in my les paul

Simon, do you think the PG is better for the neck of the LP than the Jazz? I absolutely cannot stand the 59'(n) in my Lester, and I wanted something with a little more clarity in the neck than the APH. I have not liked the PG in the past, but have never tried the Jazz.

I haven't tried the Jazz either. I bought a used one on ebay, but when it arrived it turned out to be a PGn. I liked the PG so much I didn't bother telling the seller about his mistake. :)

Since then I haven't got around to trying a Jazz. The great thing about the PG is the extra top end bite. I love the smooth mids and soft bass of a2 neck pups, but sometimes they can be lacking in highs. The PGn doesn't have that issue. To my ears the PGn is like an APHn with a brighter top end.

If you are after a vintage tone, I would go with a set of Seths over a set of 59s, only because the neck pickups will not be quite so bassy. Also, a set of Seths in a LP is a wonderful thing-very versatile with great clean tones. I get the best clean rhythm tones out of my Heritage 150 with the Seth Lovers than I've ever had in any of my other LPs. Really magical.
