What pickups would you put in a PRS SE Singlecut Korina?

Whilst I've done something of a search round here, I've not got too much of a feel for what might work in a korina body/neck (rosewood fingerboard) guitar.

I tend to play a mix of blues and classic rock (think Led Zep & Thin Lizzy), as well as heavier stuff like Queensryche and Metallica. I also like playing Radiohead and Green Day stuff on occasion, but have other guitars that are better suited for that.

My amp options are primarily British in character; Vox Lil' Night Train, an Ampmaker SE5a & Trace-Elliot Speed twin, but I also have some modelling options in a Cube 30 and a Line6 X3 Pro.

I'm very tempted by the idea of a Seth Lover set, but I've not been able to get and idea whether that would be a good match with the Korina. Oh, and I do want a covered set, so I need to factor that in too.

Your thoughts?

Seths would be great, IMO. I have not tried them myself but being lower in output, they should work well.

I've found with mine that lower output pickups work better. I've get a set of DiMarzio Air Classics in it, uncovered, and it sounds fantastic. A big meaty tone, that I dare say, has a bit of Slash-like characteristics to it.

I play stuff similar to what you mentioned. With the setup I have, the guitar performs great. I get all my gain from the amp anyway, and add an OD if I need more.

Seths, A2P's, even PG's should be great with it.

Keep in mind that the long legs of the Seths might make it a little tight. I had put some '57 Classics in mine as a test and found with the long legs that the cavities weren't quite deep enough and I really haven't felt like routing out room for the tabs either.

FWIW, I have a CS Overwound Antiquity and WCR Darkburst N in my Korina McCarty and LOVE the combo. I don't think that you could go wrong with a Seth or Antiquity set in that guitar.

That sounds promising then. I had been slightly concerned that the SL set is usually recommended for guitars with an ebony or maple fingerboard which you'd normally expect to be somewhat brighter in tone than korina/rosewood. I'm not too concerned over the long legs though - I can fix that.

The SL should be fine. If yours is like mine, it's got a little extra snap than the mahogany Singlecut making it a little brighter. That's where the Air Classics worked great for me. They have some top end but they are still warm.

Let me know how the Seth's work.
