what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

Hi Guys.
I'm starting on my 8th project and would like some assistance if possible. I have a SCR-1/n SHR-1/m & SHR-1B w/ 1-vol & 2-tones also a 5 super switch or standard 5 way. I got both. I would like to know if there's any configuration other than the standard 5 way. I mean like can I do some other setup without adding a push/push or toggle switches. Just the vol, tones and switch. I want variety but without the extra metal. I saw on this http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=3stks2_1v_2t_super5way Is there anything other than this. I would like it if its not split in #2-#4. If this is the only thing that I can do other than normal than how can I put the neck & bridge in pos #4 on the switch instead of middle & bridge.

I must have missed this the first time you posted. Let me chew on this today, and I'll post something tonight. :scratchch

Wire up your Super Switch like this. You'll get standard strat switching with the exception of pos 4. It will be neck/bridge instead of neck/middle.

The red wire is were it differs from standard strat wiring. The 1st tone pot will work in pos 1 and 2, and the second tone pot will work for pos 3, 4, and 5.

is there a way to leave the tone pot to work tone pot 1 neck and tone pot 2 middle and bridge. even though its standard switching. can i do something that will give me more variety or option. something like
a. 1pos neck
b. 2pos neck/middle series or *
c. 3pos middle
d. 4pos neck/bridge series *
e. 5pos bridge
*what would be best phase reversal or parallel (hum cancelling of course)
i know i got some heavy pickups and i want heavy sound. i know pos 1-3-5 is what i want but i want to play with pos 2-4. i need help on these 2. what can i do with these 2 with the setup i got.

The diagram I posted already has the tone pots configured like this. I'm not sure about your other questions.

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

what i meant was. in pos 2 & 4, how are my pickups going to be = series, parallel, phase, etc... i would like something hum cancelling and full tone. they have 4 wires each so i'm guessing there is probably a way to have them hum cancelling without them being coil split in those pos.

Solder and tape off the red and white wires. Connect the black wires to the switch, and the green wires to ground.

All positions will be hum cancelling, and pos 2 and 4 will be in parallel.

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

I have no comments on your wiring questions- but just wanted to tell you that when I had Strat like guitars, the Cool Rail in the neck was pure heaven. The Cool Rail was awesome in the middle position to the point where I would often use the middle by itself. The neck/middle position was meaty and wickedly spicey! BUT- the Cool Rail bridge model was a pure Seymour Duncan failure- yuck (but you're probably putting the Hot Rail in the bridge).

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

i did just what u said and we got a problem. the vol pot only works when i avtivate my tone pots. if my tone pots are off my vol wont work. the rest in pos are ok
pos 1 neck
pos 2 neck middle
pos 3 middle
pos 4 neck bridge
pos 5 bridge
i like this setup. here is a pic of what i have and did. let me know what could be the problem. the pots are 300k vol and 250k tones with a treble bleed in the vol and all the red wires are ground the black goes to jack.

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

forgot to put the rest. the cap is .047 and on the treble bleed is .001 and a 100k res. also the green and bare wires to ground and red and white soldered together and shrinking tube on each then a big one on all three. i made sure they don't touch. the extra red ground on the vol pot goes to body.

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

It doesn't look like you've got the tone cap wired in correctly.

Reference this diagram, and re-wire the tone cap like this:

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

ooohhh i c. the second tone pots is grounded. also should the cap be between them just like how it is or should it be behind the first one.

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

ok tried eliminating the ground on the second tone pot and leaving the ground on the first. good news we got it working in pos 3 4 5. the neck works in pos 4 but not in pos 1/2. the vol only works when i turn on the tone pots.

The cap needs to be "behind the first one".... just like in the SD wiring diagram.

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

i think that did it. the vol pot works on all 5 pos. thank you very much. now in some future, i hope not. is there another setup i can use for these pickups.

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

i ran up a problem with my setup. the bridge pickup sounds kinda low or darker or lazier. i don´t know how to put it but my neck and middle pickups sound great. loud and proud with both of them wanting to scream. when i select my bridge, the bass side sounds ok but the treble side sounds very low. i don´t know what it could be since i´ve never come across this issue before.

Re: what r my options on a cool/hot rail setup

also when i play with allot of distortion or overdrive. i get a hum noise. like it's not grounded correctly. my guitar has more ground then it should but that shouldn't be the problem. i found out that when i touch my jackplate the hum is gone. when i let go it comes back. i checked to see if the solder was off but it's good and clean to me.also i don't see it toughing anywhere its not supposed to. also when i touch the 5 way switch instead of hum off i get more hum. the switch is the only thing in the setup thats not grounded. should i give it one. i have a super 5 way switch and i got a set where i don't have nothing on it. should i ground it there or somewhere else.
