Re: What setup gives the most of you?

my favorite setup i played through that i thought i sounded the best through was in the rehersal studio...my hotrails equipped MIA tele into a peavey ultra plus head with 1 4x12 5150 cab and 1 4x12 marshall 1960 cab...what a perfect monsterous sound!!

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

It's close between a Les Paul and a Telecaster. As for amps I really have no idea. There are so many I have yet to try.

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

I'd have to say a super strat with a vintage Fender for cleans, light overdrive, Marshall JTM-45 for distortion and Dumble-esque amp for leads.

I love the versatility of a super strat. I'd like to eventually make that "super-tele" (which will be one of my "end all" guitars). Hard to argue when you have a hollow 335 type tone, 2 different traditional strat quacks, a rich and sparkly clean setting and a thick, fat meaty humbucker all on tap.

I'm most comfortable with a vintage Fender. I love good cleans and it's no surprise I dig Brown Bandmasters and the like. I'll go to GC and sit down next to a BF Super Reverb and be content for the next 3 hours. There is a touch response, warmth, shimmer and organic vibe that I get from old Fenders. That's what I love the most... just a clean slate.

I love Marshalls and the JTM-45 is great because I can control the type of distortion by my pick attack. I LOVE that control and that's also why I dig Dumble like amps (as aleclee pointed out). Over the years, I've learned to control my tone and express my music with pick attack and a good amp will show that.

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

Don't know why or how, but LP guitars always seem to suit me better than strat style ones. I love strats too. But for some reason LPs just feel....right. Totally personal.

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

For the guitar it's definitely my B.C Rich Custom Stealth(nothing is more me than this). For amp i'd say my Vetta II on various settings(it depends but i like the mesa sounds)

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

i havent played enough variety of gear to know for sure ... of what i have played, i have to say my tricked out 540s through my rocktron rack ... just pure tonal versatility ...

if i get a two rock or fuchs or boogie next year, my answer might change to my PRS through that ...

cheers

Folks say that if you play this guitar or this amp you will hear more of yourself than anything else. So what's your thoughts? Particularly on the amp side. Vote for your two and let's hear why.

If what you want isn't listed feel free to post what you think should be there

Voted "OTHER", for me nowadays, an SG coupled with my trusty Traynor YCV-40 is the definitive ME, although certain Mesa Boogie's with a Class A circuit or Marshall 50W Plexi w/ Master Vol would work as well on the amp end.

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

So the LP is edging out....I didn't expect THAT at all! Sorry for the limited choices guys.

I can hear where everyone is coming from, I have been playing my strat alot lately but I don't know what sounds more like me. My tendecy is to say my Z, no one sounds like me on that, and when I play a Marshall I feel like I sound like everyone else. Yet again I wonder what portion of what we hear is preconceived?

After doing some recording some stuff with my heritage and strat both on their bridge pups (both with the respective A2Ps) it amazed me how close they sounded to one another. The midrange, an thickness was all there, but the strat had the notorious quack and squawk, whereas the heritage was just straight sounding. My wife liked the heritage sound best.

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

If you really want to hear ME, I would say, the BF Bassman/ LP combo gets me most of the time.

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

deffinitely my yamaha paciffica 112 with my 54watt vox pathfinder amp sweet tone i love strats and my vox is one sweeeeet amp i love it :)

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

A shredder axe of any sort. 25.5" scale, floyd rose. It just suits my style for some reason.

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

As much as it pains me to admit, I could have voted either Strat or Tele on this. Dog a note on a Gibson through a screaming amp and you'll at least get SOMETHING. Dog a note on a Fender and the guitar will laugh at you. They're definitely instruments that force you to clean up your technique.

Then again, if you want to hear what I always love to hear with my playing, I need my '78 SG and a Fender Amp. Go figure.

Its still a bit early for me to say for sure, but it looks like I might be a Tele-man. Albeit, with non-traditional Tele pups.

I haven't really begun my amp search yet, but if we can allow modellers to count as a rough draft, I'm leaning towards a BlackFace. ;)

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

A PRS McCarthy. I hadn't the opportunity to play one yet but from what I seen in the thread about the aforesaid axe in this forum and the feeling I got when I took one in hand at my local guitar shop, I am sure this is the one for me. I'll definetly try it soon.

For the amp, I opt for the Marshall sound. I don't have much experience with amps but the tone of my valvestate 80W feels just right for me.

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

I´d prefer to switch the LP for a Jackson Soloist, but I can live with an LP/JCM 800 (and I do) and be happy ;)

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

For me, it's custom 7 string King V/Explorer-esque guitars and dual rectifiers!! :D:D:D:D

+1 to that. That said I voted for the LP. I prefer a twin humbucking guitar, but love the offset double cutaway of a strat or soloist. As for amps I voted Others. My love my combo amp, gives me a natural bluesy tone I want.

Re: What setup gives the most of you?

My Dot (with the coil tappable neck coming in the near future) through a BF Fender Twin . . . . this is still the best sound that I've heard while I was playing.
