What should I ask for my Ampeg V4?

It is hard for me to price this amp because of sentimental value and they are getting more and more rare. I have seen empty V4s going for $99 - $250. This one is loaded with vintage Celestions in perfect shape. There is no grill but the speakers have metal speaker grills. This is a solid 3/4 birch cab, way too heavy for me to move around these days. Nuno and Paul Gilbert played these cabs in the 90s because they sound "sweeter" than a Marshall.

I don't want to shoot too high in price and have it sitting around. I also don't want to give it away. What do you think I should be asking for it?

400 for quick sell. Those amps all need work, and they are Mofo to work on.Circuitbaord wih some wiring that isnt tech friendly. ditch it.

Re: What should I ask for my Ampeg V4?

This is just the cab but it is great shape. No tears what-so-ever.

Re: What should I ask for my Ampeg V4?

Do yo know which Celestions specifically are in there?

Usually I see these go for around $300 but they usually have no-name ****e speakers.

I think they are Seventy/80s. I haven't popped them out in years. I was thinking about $300 to move it quickly.

If their Seventy/80s the price will drop a bit.

Damn I thought this was the amp too...V4s are incredible bass amps as well.

!2T-75's, to the right buyer, 5 bills. The least you should take is $250. I say this because I bought a Carvin cab a while back for $200 and it was 3/4 inch voidless ply.

Re: What should I ask for my Ampeg V4?

Now I am questioning selling the cab. I haven't opened it in 30 years but knew there were Celestions in there. It turns out they are original vintage 16 ohm G12H black backs in there, in perfect condition. No wonder that cab sounded so good. I just checked around the web and those speakers are going for $150 - 200 used depending on condition. I feel like I struck gold!

I am now thinking of putting them in my Marshall 900 cab

Nice!

Just an aside. I used to have a mint condition V4 head, I paid $100 for it used and sold it for $75....... I think we figured a dollar a pound hahaha

Re: What should I ask for my Ampeg V4?

Without the original CTS speakers and the original grille, it's worth very little to a true Ampeg lover (like myself). If the vinyl and hardware are really in awesome shape, I'd say you could hope for $250 absolute high end, unless you find a sucker who really doesn't know Ampegs and buys some crazy sales pitch that you give him about the "vintage" speakers and the "void free" lumber – in which case you might be able to squeeze the fool for $400. It is such a good cab, and you'll get so little for it, that I wouldn't even consider selling it. If it was mine, I'd restore the grille and play the damned thing.

The vinyl and hardware are in pretty good shape seeing the cab was gigged with for 30 years. The reason I am selling it is I have 3 half stack set ups. The V4 is a boat anchor, there is no way I want to drag it to gigs anymore. Plus I would rather have the room in the basement. What I think I am going to do is - Put the G12Hs in my JCM 900 (main gigging cab), put the Seventy/80s from the JCM 900 in my Fender cab, Put the Fender Special Designs in the V4 and let someone take it for $100 or BO.

I am a sales guy. I pitch all day every day for the past 25 years. They have told me I could sell snow to Eskimos. However, good sales people don't sell people things they don't need, especially at an inflated price. Though at times it is tempting. ;)

If I was local to you, I'd pay $100 for it. Based on what you described, that's a right-on-the-money price IMO. My price estimates were based on vinyl and hardware being in "awesome" shape; that's a bit different than being "in pretty good shape seeing..." I'd sell the Fender speakers for 50 or 60 bucks, put a new grille on the cab, and find some speakers of my choice for it. It'd be a better quality cab than any Marshall cab, and would have the speakers of my choice, for $400– $500 investment.
