What should I do? (amp shopping)

Re: What should I do? (amp shopping)

Hell, since i have a laney, i think you might look into them also. Look at the TT50 head (or 100(watt)) or the vh100r (100w) or the GH50L. I have the VC50 which is the vh100r combo, and the cleans are exceptional in my opinion. Not quite voiced like fender, but i would say as good. The distortion is more vintage based, but can sound modern if you want. It runs 6l6 type tubes or EL34, and it has a bias switch for painless tube switching. 2 chans, each with boost, and many other features. I would recommend giving it a look at.

The VH100R is definately a good amp as well, but may be a bit too powerful for you. (I know it was for me!)

If you're looking for a lot of clean headroom, you might not find it in the Orange AD30 I mentioned earlier. I've found that with mine, I can't really get a CLEAN clean sound at stage volumes.. it usually breaks up a bit. Not in a bad way, mind you, but it's definately a bit dirty.

Your results may vary with the Strat though.. your pickups won't be pushing the amps as much as my Custom Custom did. I'd say definately give the Orange line a look if you've got a dealer locally. They have a real nice vintage-esque tone, very pick responsive feel, and the price isn't too bad. (Around $1100 for the head brand new, if I remember correctly. Combined with an Avatar 2x12, you should be well under your budget of $1500). I know I sound like an orange sales rep or something.. but I just love the damn things. :laugh2:

I got an empty 2x12 cab from avatar off of ebay, with both an open back, and the closed back if I want to change it. Then i just got my eminence Wizards drop shipped right from the factory...Amazing speakers. make my ashdown combo sound really good. hopefully i'l be buying my mesa rectoverb head next week
