What should I expect?

Re: What should I expect?

Seths have sounded great in any LP I have tried them in. For a more 70's sound, check out the Whole Lotta Humbuckers or the Alnico II Pro sets. If you are really into getting the exact 70s pickups, troll ebay, and they come up once in awhile (when that person discovers Seths) :)

Yea I really liked the sound clip of the Seths!

Re: What should I expect?

Didn't Seth Lover invent the humbucker? Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought he created the first humbucker and then was bought out by Fender to develop stuff for them in the 70s?

Re: What should I expect?

seth did create the gibson paf humbucker and went to fender in the 60's

Yes, in the mid 1950's. Years later he worked with Seymour to design the Duncan SH-55 Seth. Pretty serious credentials.

Re: What should I expect?

Yea I really do like the Seth pickups, But being a Billy Gibons fan and drooling every time I see the Pearly Gates makes me what a pair of SD Pearly Gates but I gotta do this 490 mod or else it'll just be a splinter in my mind :smash:

If you mean the short A5 in a 490R makes it a T-Top, don't bother.

It's the hardest-to-die metropolitan legend among guitar players.

HTH,

what they call Golden Age. They are very reasonably priced. The only thing is they are not Gibsons. But they are supposed to be very good pups.

Golden Age was the model designation used by Schaller for their PAF wannabe clone humbuckers.

I haven't had the opportunity to listen to one for decades. Perhaps, LtKojak can chime in on these?

Re: What should I expect?

Seths are a big improvement over the 490s. Go for the PGs if your LP is a little darker, or you need the higher eq profile.

Good deal!! I'm still wondering what the 490's will sound like with A3's or A4's I think I'm a bit hard headed :kabong:

I wouldn't look at it as being hard headed–if you know how the 490's sound in that guitar before the mod then doing the mod will educate you on how the magnet swap affected the tone. Experience is vital in developing your own tone.

Yea that what's itching my brain, I wanna know what these things will sound like with the magnet swap and a change in caps

Re: What should I expect?

Hi! I recently acquired a Gibson 70's Tribute that has the Dirty Fingers PUP's. I don't really like them and was thinking about swapping in some 490R and 490T to keep with the whole 70's theme
Ok, Andy. Let's do this the smart way:

Do you already have the 490R/490T set?

I do, a set was donated to me by my friend that replaced his pu's with SD Slash set! I'm just looking for Magnets and he's looking for the PCB board that was originally in his Gibson since he replaced it with Push Pull pots and different caps. I don't know what else he did but his Gibson sounds really cool!
