What should I look for?

Re: What should I look for?

Thanks! Do you know what model it might be? Or what price to look for on it?
If you go here to gc used type in RG2EX on the right hand search window the press enter
you will end up with a white , a pretty Jewel blue ( just like mine) and a black

these are hard tail (no tremolo) they are easier to keep in tune
they have the Wizard II neck and decent pickups

the neck has a flat scoop down the back of the neck
makes it easier for small hands to reach round for barre chords

the body is basswood so it is light but not so light it neck dives

but the RG series has super strat type bodies
and appointments

they have tremolo versions if she wants one

type into the search bar

Ibanez

or

RG

the newer RGs have the Wizard III necks that I just don't like
and they have got to where they don't finish the necks as well

the older used ones are better

if you can find one local get her hands on it the shape isn't for every one
folks who have played the Fender C shaped neck or the thick Gibsons have a time with it

This is just a question from me, what, in tone, is different from a p90 and a humbucker?
I believe it the P90 would be more like a loud single coil
most arent hum canceling
the can be loud and brash like a humbucker
but more bite
does that make sense?

Re: What should I look for?

The P-90 has more attack, is brighter, cleaner. It's like half way between a humbucker and a Strat single coil.

Re: What should I look for?

Yeah, definitely have her go up to a local store and try out a bunch of different guitars. Don't even plug them in. Have her find which one *feels* right.

Scale length, shape of neck, and style of bridge are all very important, and body shape can come into play too if she prefers playing while sitting down.

I plan on it! She was supposed to be going today, but there was some big plant sale that only comes one a year or whatever so I went instead. I found out some stuff about the guitars, I'll post it down below.

Thanks! Are they standard in SG's? I seem to see them alot in em'

Thanks so much for the info!!! I'll be looking through the used section later on tonight!!

Alright, firstly, the Ibanez I'm thinking is a SZ520, if she likes it, what would you guys think would be a good price?

Second, they have a PRS SE 245, what do you guys think of them and what price would you be looking for? Neither this one or the Ibanez have prices on them, but the owner comes in on monday and we'll ask him.

And lastly, I still can't find anything on the SG.. The only ones epiphone currently sells all say something on the headstock/truss rod cover besides just "SG"

EDIT: I looked at G&L's like Boogie suggested. We were only in there quick but I saw a G&L tribute S-500 that looked like new for 385$

Re: What should I look for?

The Ibanez SZ520 is a decent guitar, $200 would be a good price for one. (They can go $250-$300, depending on color.) It's probably in the same price range as a PRS SE 245. The PRS SE 245 only has a 24.5" scale length, that's shorter than any other standard guitar. (Strats are 25.5", Gibsons are 24.75". The Ibanez SZ is 25.1".)

He's asking 275$ for the SZ250 and my sister absolutely loves it.. The color and the feel.. And I honestly don't think it's been played. It looks better then some of the "New" guitars I've seen in places like GC and such.

Re: What should I look for?

I had an SZ320 awhile back, great guitar. Some models had Duncan Designed pickups, which sounded really good.

Re: What should I look for?

That's them. The neck is similar to a '59, bridge is similar to a Distortion.

Awesome! It's a really cool translucent purple that it seems was only made for one year. And it still has plastic on the truss rod cover thing, I don't think it was ever really used.
