What Single Coil bridge pup do you use in your Strat?

For me it's the Duncan SSL-6. It gives me the best of both worlds, from beautiful clean tones, to high quality overdrive tones, that never sounds thin/harsh/icepick like some Strat bridge pups.

Right Now, a lil'59er. next spare 60 bucks I get... A TWANGBANGER !!

Re: What Single Coil bridge pup do you use in your Strat?

i've been using a hotrails in my strat bridge but i think i'm going to order a tele spec hotrails for my strat from the custom shop since the tele hotrails sound better to me than the strat one. it's a little less hot and has a bit more of a full sound to it. eithe that or i may try the JB jr. next.

I really like the DiMarzio FS-1. Single coil but more beefy than regular Strat single coils.

Antiquity Texas Hot Custom
Twangbanger
Antiquity Surfer Custom
Fralin Steel Pole 43
Duncan 59 Trembucker
Original '63 Strat pickup 6.1K

If I had to narrow it down to three, I'd go with the Texas Hot Custom, the Twangbanger and SP 43. All three are awesome Strat bridge pickups.

I have also used the JB, JB Jr, Hot Rails, SSL-5, Carvin HB's, and many more that I can't remember right now! :smack:

In my 93 Strat Plus I have a Antiquity I Texas Hot Custom bridge pup and in my 70's Unknown brand Jap Strat I have a JB Jr in the bridge.

Right now I have a Rio Grande Muy Grande in one, in the other I have a Texas Special...

Re: What Single Coil bridge pup do you use in your Strat?

I'm using Fender Fat '50's and love them. Eventually I'm going to get a set of Antiquity Custom/Texas Hot. For now, the Fenders are fine

Re: What Single Coil bridge pup do you use in your Strat?

I have a Texas Hot Custom that I bought at a Guitar Center for $25 a few years back and I have yet had the chance to put it in one of my Strats. I'm very picky about Strat pickups and I haven't yet found a bridge pickup for Strats that I'm entirely happy with...

Lets see what happens when I put that pickup in.....

Re: What Single Coil bridge pup do you use in your Strat?

there are several combinations I haven't tried, but I'm at least convinced of this:
the bridge should be hotter than the other two pickups, whether it's 7K, 9K, or more

personally, I need tone on the bridge, too, so I bridge the mid tone pot to the bridge, but some people just wire the mid pot to the bridge by itself

FWIW, this is kinda like how the current AS strats are ... I've read the bridge is 7K (although I haven't measured mine), and the mid pot is wired "mid/ bridge master tone"

That to me is the most apparent design flaw of the Strat -- no tone control for the bridge pickup.

Re: What Single Coil bridge pup do you use in your Strat?

You could always use one regular pot and one concentric pot for your tone controls, and have 3 knobs in the space for 2...

Re: What Single Coil bridge pup do you use in your Strat?

I use SSL-3 in bridge with SSL2's in neck and middle. what a great combo!

Re: What Single Coil bridge pup do you use in your Strat?

Twangbanger in one and Texas Special in the other, both with bottom tone pot wired to the bridge position (middle wide open). They both sound good, but fall short of any of my Tele bridge pickups. :argh:

FWIW, most all of the new Fender American series and Deluxe Strats have a tone control for the bridge pup.
