Re: What strings do you use

Well...i'm currently using GHS boomers 09-46 and they are excellent for stability and durability...only cons is that they became mud on lower strings...
For the sound...the best i like it's fender superbullets...always natural and briliant sounding...a little bit more delicate...
Tried Ernie ball...liked a lot but become dark (oxide) quite fast...d'addario...in comparison to the other miss bass and treble...dean markley sounds dead...and gibson are great for work in the mid of neck...but are quite hard.
Always used nickel plated....

Re: What strings do you use

I have Ernie Ball Super Slinkys on my Mustang and Stratocaster and Gibson VR-10s on my Les Paul. At the risk of sounding dumb, what is the difference between nickel-plated and pure nickel?

Re: What strings do you use

I play a strat and usually use EBs, but once i thought i'd be darring and try some fender strings, becuase they're suposed to fit better in the bridge and stay in tune, BS!!!! Within a week i put the EB's back on. There was a serious change in tone. It's hard for me to try new strings. I'd rather not take the bet and buy something i may not like.

It's like when i go to the Liqour store to buy a case of Rolling Rock and that new miller chill calls my name. I dont wanna risk buying something i may not like, so i usually go with my standby.

Re: What strings do you use

Dean Markley Blue Steels' on all of my electrics and recently started to use John Pearse strings on my acoustics. Before that I used Martin's on my acoustics.

Re: What strings do you use

Elixir nanowebs in various gauges for electric
DR Rare Phosphor Bronze in 12-54 on accoustic(local shop had them on sale for 3€ a pack and i bought all 8 they had left)
Dean Markley SR 2000s on bass in 35-128(6-string bass)
Still experimenting on nylon strings for my classical.

Re: What strings do you use

blue steels on my electrics until last time i bought some elixr's...jury is still out on them

d'addario flattops for my acoustics until last time i bought elixr's for them as well.

Re: What strings do you use

I use the electric Elixirs now (.11s) after years of using D'addario .11s because I find that they sound fresh for three weeks or more. Every other brand of strings that I've used fades in a couple of days.

EDIT - On my acoustic I've been experimenting for a bit, and it sounds awesome with Dean Markley Alchemy strings . . . they also seem to last a lot longer than normal strings.

Re: What strings do you use

I demand a repost with a proper amount of poll options

GHS
Ernie Ball
D'Addario
Dean Markley
DR
Snake Oil Brand
Pyramid
Elixir
Gibson
Fender
Rotosound
Thomastik-Infeld
SIT

...at the very least.

Re: What strings do you use

I am switching all my guitars to Ernie Ball nickels, 10-46. They're bright for nickel wound and stay in tune well. I use Rotosound Jazz nickels on my basses. Nickel strings seem to work better for me an last longer. Stainless is hard on the hands, corrodes and eats up the frets. I have to use them on my Steinberger, but I hate them.

Re: What strings do you use

I use a few different brands for different applications.

I use Gibson nickel Les Paul signature strings on my LP's and SG's...

I've found that D'Addarios sound best on my guitars equipped with EMG pups.

I use GHS strings on all my other guitars.

Gauges will vary depending on guitar and tuning and feel etc...

On my acoustic, I'm still trying to find a string that I love. I didn't like Martin strings. The sound was rite, but they were too stiff. Too bad they don't make strings in my preffered gauge of 11-52. Rite now I've got D'Addarios EXP coated strings on it and it sounds pretty good so far. I'm gonna try Elixir nanowebs next.

Brands I've tried and didn't like:

Fender Bullets
GHS sub-zero boomers
DR coated strings
Ernie Ball

Re: What strings do you use

Blue Steels 10-46 on standard tunings 10-52 on D and drop C, D'addario 10-56 for 7 strings standard tuning.
