What telecaster to get?

Hi guys,
Got bitten by the tele bug and now I must have one lol. Tried a few in stores but there are so many different types that I forgot which ones I liked most :sad:
Which are the good ones? Which ones to stay away from?
I already have a '75 Gibson SG and a PRS SE Custom 22, so I would look for something of the same quality for a budget between 400 and 800ish.
Classic style tele btw, don't need more humbuckers.
Any suggestions?

I always look for the bottom of the American heap, but if you play one from anywhere else and it sounds good, that's all that matters. I bought a Highway 1 ash body with TexMex pickups when I got one. I've eyed Baja Telecasters with an ash body and twisted tele pickups as a second. Road Worn is another good one.

The MIM has some pretty beefy pickups.....or at least it used to. So if you want it for rock or you are wanting to keep up with your existing guitars it will probably really suit.
The Classic Vibe might be the other series if it exists in the Tele - they are the sleeper line in strats anyhow - this will likely be much more vintage oriented.

Well I'd love it to keep up with my others when rocking out with the band but I really want it to do its own thing. More like a modern/vintage kind of guy if that makes any sense.
I've never owned a guitar that kept stock pickups in it for long, lol.

Edit, a good example of the sound i want this to have would be the red telecaster from that pedal show. That's beefy right?

Used USA Fenders can be scored within your budget. Realize, though, you're asking for the quality of several thousand dollar guitars for 1/4-1/3 of that price.

I might be able to make a deal on a Baja Telecaster! I'll trade my Ibanez SZ320 and Partscaster (quality wise its on par with MiM stuff) for it. Am I crazy? Probably lol
Wahts your opinions on the Fender Classic Player Baja Telecaster? Yay or Nay?

I saw on sweetwater, they currently have a couple american teles that are plek'd, bone nut upgrade, with texas special pups. Specs aee extremely similar to the custom i just got and 1/3rd of the price.

Go to sweetwater and searched "telecaster plek'd" and they should come up.


Loving the tele i got 2wks ago.

My understanding is it's a Broadcaster type bridge pickup with a Strat type neck pickup - which would be best of all worlds if my understanding is correct.

i'm going to get an American Tele, sunburst w/maple neck and put a black pickgaurd on it

(OR a sunburst strat w/rosewood i can't decide!)

Going to order one or the other tonight!

Go get it! lol But the american has more vintage type pickups no? I like the cool switching options of the Baja a lot.

Sweet.I love blue guitars! It's probably a way better guitar than the baja with better resale value etc. but I cannot justify the price tag in any way. I do wonder if the custom shop made pickups of the baja are slighty better if not much better than the standard fender stuff?

Night burst... Teles are great, but I'd like to get a plug in for Ibanez talman series... More bang for buck and on average I've found much better tone and construction at same price point... Just a thought

I have the Classic Player Baja 60's Tele - really nice guitar, hated the S1 switching after a little while and wired it traditional 3 way but other than that it's golden
