What to do with a $20 guitar (when it plays TOO good).

I saw some First Act guits on ebay for between $30-$70. They're out there.

If it's got the mojo that you speak of, let it be. Only doctor on it as needed... Find another one and mod the sh*t out of it... The other beater can be a fun project for the both of you, trying to find it's mojo.

A guitar is too cheap and plays too well. Such a burden!

Guitar Center three years ago when we lived in Birmingham AL. Must have been a weekday. Thing is, you know if they were asking $20 for it, they gave some kid $10 for it on trade! I actually felt bad and semi embarrassed buying it, as the sales guy seemed put out ringing it up. LOL

Regardless guys, my 9yr old will always have access to it.

And oh, I found the description of this model just now. Fun to read...

The First Act ME506 Single Cutaway Electric Guitar features a custom solid body with a single cutaway design that delivers rich and warm sound. With a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, the ME506 is both sturdy and stylish. The single bridge-position, proprietary, high-output humbucking pickup hammers out great rock distortion. This guitar also features a tilted 3 +3 headstock and classic hardtail bridge to maximize sustain, chrome-covered tuning machines for accurate tuning, and volume and tone controls. First Act didn't scrimp on style -- the ME506 features a cool black glossy finish and contemporary pickguard shape.

Oh definitely leave it to where you both can grab it at anytime. I've had one sitting out for most of my 14yr olds life... I just wouldn't change anything until it needed it.

I use guitars like that for wiring experiments.

Me too. And they're good for that. Not knocking them.

I got a Johnson sunburst strat at Goodwill for $15. The body is light & resonant, it's got a round fat neck, good frets. Plays & sounds great straight to amp & takes the pedals well. Ugly Vox lookin' headstoke other than that. It's a fun beater.

I paid "retail" for mine. ($125-ish) I love it. ;)

Why are you arguing with yourself? I'm pretty sure that's a mental problem.

No, I was just expressing that I wasn't taking it all that seriously when I said it hit a nerve, and that it was intended to be taken far more lightly than it has been.

I once bought a Washburn just for the Grover tuners. Don't mod it a bit. It's a $20 gem if you like it. Let the kid play Dragonforce covers with it.
