what to do? (Zerb?)

Frito's Better Half
I play .13, .15, .20, .38, .48, .58 all in standard tuning, they're starting to get light for me, a little too floppy for my tastes. Does anyone know of any string brands that have sets larger than this for fairly cheap? Right now I play GHS boomers. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: what to do? (Zerb?)

you play that in standard? mental. i use that gauge 2 steps down in C.

Re: what to do? (Zerb?)

I was using it half a step down ala SRV, but for church I needed standard. I tried capoing at the first fret, but when I went to solo, I got all mixed up, so I just tuned up, and they were a little tight, but now I've gotten used to them and I need something bigger, they flop and are too easy to bend that I sometime over bend.

Re: what to do? (Zerb?)

check out my sig. both 25.5 and 24.75 scales. and rid, how long do you think it will take for it to set in? I've been playing the guages for about 3 years now and havent had any problems.

Re: what to do? (Zerb?)

If you have tinkels and some sort of fatigue in your joints, or your wrist feels funny.
Then you really need to relax and tune down or gauge down.
If your fingers feel stiff and wooly also take a break.
You can play with big strings, I have used 13-58 as well on one of my strats in normal tuning, after a while it is not so bad, but your fingers will eventually get enough if they must perform alot, today my wrist is hurting if I am not careful.
Just be mindful if you feel anything weird.

it could just be your fingers are a little weak now and they will grow stronger with time

Learn to play bass lol.

Re: what to do? (Zerb?)

ya know, proxy I wish I had the cash for a bass, but right now I'm selling pretty much everything that I can afford to let go just to fund my guitar gas.

Re: what to do? (Zerb?)

13's in standard are getting too light for you?

0__o

holy freaking crap!! you must have really strong hands!

Re: what to do? (Zerb?)

wow thats a thick gauge man.....i dunno in standard tuning thats crazy...but if u do thats cool.....have u tried the new ernieballs not even slinky strings?

Re: what to do? (Zerb?)

yo, three cent. I got the gauges of the first set (first post) and I really like 'em, thanks. And strat master, I looked at the not even slinkys, but they're lighter gauges than what I normally play.

Nah, I did that the first 4 (*edit*10-11, damn time flies :D) years of (electric) playing, just felt "right". I only swtched to 12-52 like 3 years ago for the added playability ;)

To the question at hand...
Juststrings (link somewhere above) has LaBella Baritone strings up to 15 -80 ;)

I personally use custm guage DR-Tite fits for low tunings, but buying lots of single strings isn´t exactly cheap ;)

Hehe how do you get the 80 in the tuner Zerb??
Drilled the hole bigger??
I did that on one of my old strats once, used 13-62 then.....bugger:D
THAT´S....100%........CORRECT!!! GIVE THE MAN A RUBBER CIGAR!!! :D:D:D

On a more serious note: Yep, that´s what ya gotta do. BTW, most Floyd saddles and Locknuts also need "slight modification" for guages above .070, Kahlers fare better in this situation ;)
