Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

I much prefere playing rhythm, especially in a band situation, if the set had alot of solo's maybe i'd take one, but i feel much more confortable and at home playing rhythm, plus most of the stuff i play is much more rhythm based anyway.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

are these my only choices? hehe
in my band, i play rhythm/lead/textures with loops, guitar synth, and sounds that sound nothing like a guitar..oh I also play bass pedals (lowww notes below the bass guitar) with my feet.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

Oh well being as its too late to repost this, what do you guys think about skill? I personally think that it takes an equal amount of skills to play rhyth, guitar as it does t play lead, it is just the lead guitar is more noticable. Ive seen people butcher the rhythm section of a song and i cant help but say what happened to the fourth beat?!??! A really good rhythm guitarist can keep a good solid rhythm and in fact make the melody alot more prominent ..its all in the strumming mix it up! Of course soloing takes skill as well :)

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

yeah, well, you should have enough skill to play in time and count to 4. Most songs, you play rhythm most of the time, and being a great rhythm player, you can get a job in any band.
However, a good guitarist can do anything the song requires, rhythm, lead, etc.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

I voted for lead guitarist because that's pretty much what i do (or wanna do at any rate). As it is im the sole guitarist in my band so i play both but my rhythm actually sounds like lead riffs cause i put a lot of squeals, bends and pretty much everything i can in them to make them sound cool cause i enjoy playing more complicated and challenging riffs than plain chord work. As for solos i try to put feeling in them and let that guide me whether it's shredding or good old blues feeling or whatever feels right at that particular moment.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

im definately a rhythm guitarist. i like doin slower more melodic kinda leads, but the shred **** just isnt fun to me. i love listening to really crazy leads though, just aint what i like to play

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

Realistically, both, although I checked lead guitarist. Most music requires a lot more rhythm guitar than anything, but I've always been the lead player in my situations.
What I'm best at is writing/arranging music and vocal melodies, but leaving the lyrics to the guy who sings them. I'm more of a Joe Perry, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore, or Neil Schon type player.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

i am rhythm and lead, but i am not into ultra fast shreds, as far as i am concerned those solos have no soul, no feeling.
i mostly play rhythm, but i like to solo and there's nothing like the feel of a nice tight lead riff, add all that together and i guess i am both.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

I voted both, but it's hard to distinguish because the other guitarist is our bass until we find a replacement bass. I generally play lead, because I am (not to be c0cky) actually much better than the other guitarist. I feel like I can hold my own as rhythm though.

As for leads, I don't go for the fast shred stuff (mostly because I cant yet :laugh2: ), but I like to tear up the fretboard relatively quickly. Melody and technique are more important to me than speed though.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

Well I play a bit of both since in our band we take it in turns to play solos so to speak... I play most of them though since our other guy aint that good yet =)

Same. Except I checked both ;)

I tend to take very few solos when playing with bands however, as I only take one if I feel a song needs one. Playing rhythm is just as much fun for me, and I spend as much if not more time trying to get my rhythm chops sorted.

At home... meh, every song needs a solo :laugh2:

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

I guess I'm pretty all round.
In my current band I play mostly rythm because I'm also the singer. Depending on the song I play solo's too.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

I've been known to noodle a solo or two, but I also enjoy vamping chords for a good Tenor Sax player.

Thats strange, I always thought the answer to that equation was Yngwie Malmsteen :D

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

More Lead than Rhythm but i play both. I've played in three different bands for 6 years ( Pro ) as a lead guitarist but also played rhythm as well. We never had a rhythm guitarist in any of the Bands i played.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

Both. I'm primarily a rhythm player in my gig, but if there's a guitar solo to be had, it's my job to do it.

I consider it all to be interconnected. Sometimes great rhythm playing can be playing a single note or a double stop, so lead skills blend with rhythm skills.

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

Definetely lead. I can't get over what a powerful melodic lead can do to a song.

Then again, it's not like I'm not a contributor to rhythm sections either, like it may suggest. It's just that I know that I'm a lead player, I don't come home and practice wierd barre chords, I go home and work on scale fragments baby!

Re: What type of guitarist are you?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

I do a bit of both. Right now, I'm only in a jam band, so I'm usually the one setting the rhythm, and the other guitarist comes in with whatever. We always make sure to change it up for everything, for a bit of variety. So most of the time you'll see me playing a bluesy riff, and the other half of the time I'll be playing a solo.
