What V?!

well, hopefully in the near future i will be able to save up enough cash to get a new guitar. i want a more notisable guitar. my F-200 is jsut too simialr to the "normal" shape guiat, especially when it's black and i wear all black. basically i want either a V or Explorer shape and i am thinking more about a V. i have a guitar with a Floyd so i want one w/o one like a tune-omatic- or string through or hartail, w/e. it's really between 3 different guitars. ESP LTD DV8, ESP LTD EX400, Gibson Faded V (the one that goes for $679 on MF), i also had the Jackson KV3 or w/e the king V but the not not USA verson, but they seem to have stopped making that one. i guess it's really between the two ESP's. the EX has the black diamond plate finish, and EMG 81's...but it's black so it might not be what i want. the DV8 has a JB bridge and a Jazz Neck, and it comes in white silver or black, and it has the 8-ball inlay. I play metal so i guess wither one would work, what do u think i should aim for. i think the EX400 just becasue i think it's more for the money and it's cheaper because it isn't a sig. guitar

Re: What V?!

v's and explorers, thats my area. i have an ex-351 and i gotta warn you esp ex's are a little neck heavy (but mine is still awesome, i love it). i wouldnt get a faded gibson v cause the quality control on the fadeds is a little.....off. i was thinking of gettin one a while ago, and instead of the most commom problem with that series of rough frets i found a couple with warped pickguards. so unless you find one in the store and play it, i wouldnt get a faded (like if you ordered it). im not positive but i think the only non-USA king v jackson is making now is the JS30 version, which for $300 seems like a pretty good deal to me. i havent seen the kvx10s (the older non-usa one) advertised recently. the kv-3 you mentioned hasnt been made for a while, but you can still get em for a pretty good price on ebay. out of all the ones you mentioned, i think the ltd DV-8 is your best option. neck thru construction, sperzel locking tuners, straplocks, tonepros locking bridge, and JB/jazz pickups make it a real good deal. but in close 2nd is the ex-400. its got EMG pickups (real 81s not HZ's) and grover tuners. and i think that the diamond plate (in addition to looking badass) might knock off some of that neck-heaviness. in the end its your choice, but if its up to me id go with the dv-8.

also give dean guitars a look, they make some awesome v's

Re: What V?!

I wouldn't go with the EX, simply because if you ever wanted to switch pickups, you'd have to take off that whole damn plate...

Re: What V?!

i never thought about switching the pickups, but that shouldn't be a problem i want real EMG's anyway. i was leaning towards the DV8 too, mostly because i like the V better than the EX and it isn't black. that and in the long run i would rather have a guitar w/ duncans, and the replace the EMG HZ H4's in my F200 for a Zakk Wylde set od EMG's, only thing is the DV8 is about $100 more than the EX but i think it's worth it
