What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

Well one of my mates has an old 62...it has a unique fat tone...but not so strat like...but a really good one.
Then I have tried a few 54's and 56 + 57...those where good good strats.
Almost all the CS heavy relic strats we have in the shop.....a 69 heavy relic, and one of the limited run 54's....never heard a more fat neck single coil tone in my life from any Fender or other brand....
Also one old early 80's Navigator really had it.

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

The best strat I ever played was a 1963 rosewood board Strat that was this cool pearl green color. The owner was the original owner and bought it in 1964 (when he was 13 years old) off the rack in a music store in Fullerton. Apparently someone ordered it as a custom finish and then rejected it when it came in.

Easy action, smooth neck, resonated like a live wire and rung like a bell.

I'd like to try a G&L some day. I played some strats and a MIM knocked me out 3 years ago and a MIA 3 months ago. They felt really good and sounded amazing.

I know a nice guitar shop some kilometers away from me which also has some Tyler and Suhr guitars. Strangely, I've never been there before, ughs. I'm excited how these sound and I plan to check the shop out soon.

The main problem is, if you found the Strat you don't have the cash for it usually :D

I love the one I currently have. Yeah, it's the ghey cop-out, but I really love the tone I'm getting now (after a few mods and tweaks over the years).

By the way, TattooedCarrot, do you have towel I could, y'know, use? That is a seriously nice strat. Just sayin'...

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

I have to say I'm partial to the 83' & 84' SQ Squiers. I've owned 3 of em' (+ a Tele) I still have my original white (Now Banana Pudding 84') I've played all the RI's Strats & the Clapton Strat, They just didn't do it for me. Recently the bass player I was jamming with brought down his 99' AM STD w/t Fender Fat 50's PuPs. I never thought I'd like a guitar without a vintage style trem & med Jumbo frets? But he let me take it home and do a setup on it, And it played like a dream! I liked the Fat 50's Neck & mid PuPs as much as I like SSL-1's, But the Fat 50's bridge PuP I found to be useless.

My G&L is the one for me! It's Mary Kaye blonde over lightweight ash, a thin finish that seems to be naturally aging.. you can just feel the grain of the wood through it, 3 bolt neck, nice flame in the neck, Just feels great, acoustically it's very lively and loud. None of the many Fenders or Blades I've owned have come close to this one.

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

My Clapton Sig Strat. I love those necks.

i was going to adress this.

i played a clapton strat.

felt like a 50s strat.

im not saying it isnt good, im saying that it wasnt worth the 1,800 for it.

i dont think.

i think many here would agree: an upgraded MIA strat would be just as good or better.

I have a Clapton Strat and a Malmsteen Strat as well. The Malmsteen's at the shop getting a G&P, I can't comment how that'll be afterwards, with the scallop fretboard it's a different animal, but the Clapton's the best strat I've ever played as well.

But I bought mine used for $850, not $1800.

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

My uncle's American Strat. Mid-nineties or so. I haven't played that many strats to be honest but this one does feel pretty good.

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

My old teacher had a 62 Lake Placid Blue Strat, all original. That, without a doubt was the best strat I have ever played. He swapped it for a 335 and a Tom Anderson....

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

there are three strats that ive played that really stand out. a '62, a '58, and the master built '54 they did for the 50th anniversary. i played a few of them and all of em were fantastic.

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

It's a toss up between a Jeff Beck and Eric Johnson. Those two just played fantastic when I held them. Never played a really old Strat from the 50's or 60's.

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

Is the 2-point trem on the G&Ls really better than Fender's 2-point?

I can't imagine having anything Stratish without the 6-screw vintage trem.

A Hamer Daytona. :cool2: Only my Livingroom Noodler Opinion mind you. ;)

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

a hamer daytona is one of my two main guitars. i love it but it wasnt in the same class as those three that i mentioned, it also didnt carry the price tag of them either.

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

A few years ago my financial situation got better really fast and I decided to buy a present to myself by getting my first proper strat.

I went to the city and checked the local shops and tried tens and tens of strats. I luckily had money to buy any guitar I wanted. I ended up with a 2004 50th Fender Anniversary US Stratocaster. The best guitar I tried then or before that... not that I've tried a better one afterwards either!

I don't know what it is about it that's so special. It rings very loudly and beautifully both acoustically and amplified, and the playability leaves nothing to wish for. I really like the ash/maple/maple combination and the modern two point trem. It came with CS'54 pickups which are terrific but I opted to try something different and installed the EMG DG20 setup a couple of months ago - I think I've grown to like the EMGs better. All in all it's my #1 and I'm sad that I can't really see any other guitar to look forward to anymore!

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

A couple come to mind; a black '56 that I owned for a short time in the 80's, Anson Funderberg's old sunburst, and some MIJ RI stuff.

Re: What was the nicest Strat you've ever played?

the nicest sounding strat i've ever played is my 1987 American Standard... it is very full sounding with lots of mids... My Custom Shop 66 is next...

one time in the early 90's i was in a long gone Toronto music shop and grabbed a MIM 60's reissue strat off the wall in Candy Red... i believe these were Basswood body era reissues that the Mexican Vintage reissues had for a while... whatever it was it was such a great strat... i was playing hendrix stuff on it thru a Fender amp and it it was just a singing... i always wished i had bought that guitar..... not often do i find a strat that does that....

i've been looking at various strats in stores in all price ranges and not many are "special"! Quite a few dogs i'm finding with some slightly better ones here and there...
