What was your first Duncan?

Re: What was your first Duncan?

It was a 59 bridge in the neck position of a Les Paul I bought. Used it for years that way until I moved it to the bridge. No longer have the guitar or pickup now.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

I think my very first one was the Seymourizer II (now known as the Distortion neck model) that I got in 1989 or 1990 to replace the stock neck pickup on a Washburn A10V. The guitar, along with the upgraded pickups, nut and tuners I put in, was traded away for a nice ESP in about 1995.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

1987 - My first guitar that I bought myself, a Charvel. I spent the first few years playing on a rental and borrowed guitars and amps.

I put a Duncan Custom in the bridge and a Full Shred in the neck. Great combo. Right now the guitar has no pickups. Still debating what to do.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

Late 90's (either 1998 or 1999, can't remember). Bought a JB for my Ibanez GRX40. Since then, that JB has been in almost every guitar I've owned and will be but in my 92 Squier once I get it up and running. I have dubbed it "My Beloved." I don't have that guitar anymore but I do still have the Powersound the JB replaced.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

Hot Rails neck, it did not work for me. Then I replaced it with Jazz neck, it was a winner. After that JB, YJM Fury neck, SSL-1s, Custom Stack and so on. very happy with SDs so far.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

I had two STK-S1s on a hot rodded superstrat. To replace the bridge pick up, I put on an APH-1 which was far too weak, so that got replaced by a custom custom.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

Pearly Gates that I put in a Strat I had just bought new. Was a great workhorse until I gave that guitar a rest in the case for 10 years or so. When I tried it again, -both- coils had gone open circuit so I bought another PG and it's my main gig guitar again.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

The JB was my first Duncan, followed by a single-coil Woody a couple months later. The pickups came stock in the guitar, so it was actually years before I realized what was in them but I knew there was something very special about the bridge pup tone.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

When I first read this thread title, I didn't think I remembered what my first Duncan was... but then I did.

It was a Little '59 that I put in the bridge of a Japanese Strat from the '80s that I owned years ago. In fact, I think that was my first pickup swap ever, and I had this crappy little 30-watt soldering iron that could barely get a pot hot enough to melt solder... And I janked the tape around it pretty good getting it into the pickguard. Luckily, my lack of modding skill was the least of that guitar's worries.

The pickup sounded great, though. Massive improvement over whatever stock sploink-machine it came with.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

My very first SD pickup was a JB and I still use them today as well as other SD pickups.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

Hot Rails (b) & (n), Duckbucker (n) for mid position on a Strat. I immediately exchanged the Duckbucker for a Cool Rails.

What was your first Duncan?

My first Duncan pickup was an unboxed, unlabeled Jazz pickup I bought for $5 back in the early '80s. This was when SD was still located downtown 2 blocks from the beach--they were having a parking lot sale and I couldn't pass it up. I had a beautiful Ibanez fretless P-bass copy that I had specially routed just to add this pickup in the bridge position.

Great sounding bass, but I ending up selling it a couple years later so I could have a custom bass built, also with Duncans in it. That's the same bass I play today :-)

Re: What was your first Duncan?

First pup was a JB installed into a Les Paul, several decades ago and I still have and use it!

Re: What was your first Duncan?

Hot Rail in Ibanez Roadstar, one of the early ones with open windings. Sounded better and better until it worked itself into a shorted pickup. Didn't know if they would rewind back then. Guitar long gone...wanted Charvels.

Re: What was your first Duncan?

I just installed my first pair of Seymour Duncan's in one of my guitars yesterday!
Custom Shop JB & Pearly Gates.
