What will a Jazz sound like in the bridge?

I have a SD Jazz pup laying around that used to be in the neck position of my EBMM Sub1, and I have a Mexican Strat that I have laying around but don't really use because it doesn't sound very good for what I want to use it for, which is Eb/Drop Db tuning. I want to put the pup in the bridge position of the Strat, but I know it's popular in the neck, but not the bridge. The reason I ask is because if people don't like the way it sounds in the bridge I may not even bother and just go for a different pup. I'll be playing mostly Alice in Chains stuff with the guitar. Do you think it will suit the sound?

Thanks.

I don't think a Jazz would suit the sound but then again I am not completely sure. Someone here will give you a good answer. Sorry Bro.

It all depends on your amp. If you have a modern, high gain channel switcher, it should do just fine.

I have a Mesa Rectoverb which sounds amazing for rock and metal. I just read that there are different models for the neck and bridge, that the bridge model has more output but they both have the same eq. Will raising the pickup to be really close to the strings help?

With a Rectoverb you should be MORE than fine. I once heard that Seymour favors a Jazz neck for balancing with strat singles.

it should be fine, though since it's lower output it'll probably be a bit brighter than the normal bridge model. with that in mind, i'd say raise it up about 1mm higher than usual and lower the adjustable coil's screws about 1 1/2 turns to thicken up the tone accordingly.

That Rect-o-verb is a pretty dark, gainy amp. I would just throw it in there and set it up so it balances (as far as volume) with your singles.

I called Seymour maybe fifteen or twenty years ago and asked about "what humbucker would sound best as the bridge pickup in a Strat with Strat single coils neck and middle.
He said "the Jazz neck but use is as a bridge pickup". So go for it - and let us all know how it works. lew
