If you are looking for a cheap vibe to get your feet wet, I recommend the Danelectro Chicken Salad. It uses real photocells just like the big guys. With two small mods (line some foil around the lamp and drill a hole to access the "throb" trimmer) you've got a real contender. I replaced mine with a Fulltone, which I replaced with a Wilson Haze. The Chicken Salad definitely held me over and I wouldn't hesitate putting it back on my board if I needed to.

So far the Fuzz Face has paid for itself. It even does a big muff impression through the overdrive channel of my vox. If I had any idea how much clearer the fuzzface is in comparison to my late NYC big muffs I would have started here when I got the chance.

Make no mistake, there's nothing "mini" about this pedal.
