What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

What pickup design would you like to see come from Seymour Duncan that isn't currently available as a production pickup?

I would love to see an pickup wound to around 10-12k, voiced as a PAF, alnico II mag, and with unbalanced coils (kind of a hot PG). I think that this pickup would split the difference between the PAF class pickups and the Custom series.

What would you guys like to see?

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

A fairly hot pickup with more mids and the treble cut back a bit.

Or a JB with the really upper treble cut back a bit and just a slightly bigger bottom end....for bright guitars where the JB clashes....

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I'ld hate to see them spread themselves too thin. They have a pretty good line-up now.

I wouldn't mind seeing some more SD pedals maybe. Not a lot. Just a pickup-specific thang or two. Like a Distortion with a "matched" pedal. That kind of thing could be cool.

Or, perhaps, a pickup "saddle". A universal mounting system that would allow you to "pop" one out, and another in - in a second. That could be real nice.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

The Wfd Humbucker And The ****ing Rails!!!!!!!!

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

+1 for the F****ing Hail Rails! Also the pickup MJ made for Jessica would be sweet the hotter Jazz neck pickup (top half of the Bitchbucker duo).

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I'd like to see SD making some more pickups voiced for the high-gain players who still like their sound to be fairly warm.
Not just the extreme overboard stuff like the Dimebucker which doesn't appeal to me at all though I never even heard it. I'm probably not the only player out there who doesn't want someone elses signature on a pickup (exept for Seymours). And I also think it's pretty ugly, I prefer the more modern hex poles look or the classic look.

So a JB with a bigger bottom end would be great.

Or a neck pickup that is like a '59 (fat and warm) wound a little hotter say around 10k. It would be a great rythem pickup that still has brilliant cleans but handles fast high-gain riffs very good as well and still stays warm. It would sound somewhere inbetween modern and vintage and have a more tight bass response compared to the '59 but still remains it's open character. Some extra added harmonics wouldn't kill it either.

Yeah I'm a picky SOB. :D

I'd like something in between the Seth/59 and the Custom series. So, I guess it would end up being a pickup a little hotter than the Blues model.

Nightburst: For the heck of it, I tried the Blues in the neck position. It sounded pretty darn good -- much better than the 59b I had tried in the neck. The Blues trembucker might be what you are looking for.

I'd like to see the Seymour Duncan ChunkBucker. 1 coil from the JB, and 1 coil from the SH-6 Distortion. Maybe some good dayglow green paint with tiny red LEDs on the polepieces that light up according to magnetic output!

I'm with him. Make the neck pickup like the 59 like he said. I'd keep the output but smoothen out the frequencies a little more...lose some of the bass-mids...describing a APH1?? :)

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I want a Cream colored EMG81 clone with quick connects.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I'd see what could be done to give the Custom 5 just a tad more mids.
I actually tried it myself by putting an Alnico 4 magnet in a C-5.
Since Alnico 4 is in between 2 and 5, I figured it would inject the perfect amount of mids into my favorite pickup. However, the Custom 4 has less 'bounciness' than the C-5 or JB.....very articulate, but a harder attack on the notes.

For you guys looking for a JB with deeper lows and less midspike, just try a C-5 and see if that's the sound you're looking for. I still like the JB, too.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

ya like artie said, a system that could be used to pop out a pickup and put a new one in with out any soldering or that stuff. I read an article that tony iommi had a guitar like that made custom for him for use in the studio, he said the system was rediculously expensive and kinda awkward.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I agree with Benjy 26. As far as humbuckers, I see a ton of hot output pickups for the metal heads and of course they have a lot of authentic vintage spec'd buckers. there isn't much in between.

That's what I wanted, so I had to order a EVH custom wound to almost 10K and I'm dyin' to hear it. I need to get a strat body.

As for the comment on the warmer high gain pickups, I think any pickup can work well with high gain as long as you eq for it and use a good amp. Amp's today have enough gain to make any humbucker crushing. My favorite pickup is Gibson 57's and I play very high gain.

I agree 100%!! This is definetely a void in the current product line. There may be good reason for this but to me it sounds like a logical idea.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I would like to see a Distortion with rails. I just like the look of twin blades and I love the Distortion.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

Definitely a humbucker between the PAF types and the Customs - there is a big void in that 10-12k range!

That sounds perfect! I would love a hotter (but not too hot) PG.

Re: What would you like to see as a SD production pickup?

I want a strat bridge pickup that's around 9-10K. Kinda like the custom w/ the ants and what not. I love that, it's not too hot that in overpowers the rest of the pickups, but it's hot enough to use for soloing. I unwound my SSL-5 to 9.2K awhile back and I love it.

Sounds good, but wouldn't it be a 'little' on the bassy side? I'd be affraid to get mud. I think the SD would fit my description but it might be too bright?
