i need one for my alder body jackson dk2s (hss)

there is a JB in the bridge. the neck pu is the sustainiac driver ok for clean but not great lead tone under gain.

so i need the middle pick up to have a sweet warm clean tone and a killer lead tone under gain

i was thinking a cool rails, hot rails, lil 59.

any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

I have a Quarter Pound for Strat in the middle in my old Blazer.

The cool rails will definitely not do what you want. Hot stack sounds most promising, or the little demon.

how about the jb jr or hotrails?

something that will balance with the jb at the bridge?

thanks again

I have a weird stack in my Gibson Nighthawk (of which I have very little information). I use it for cleans when combing with the neck or middle and I sometimes use it alone for solos - it has an incredible tone very pronounced and vocal midrange although it overpowers the other pickups.

What I'm trying to say (besides praising my own guitar) is that you can make great original choices with this under appreciated position.
I'd also go for the Hot Rails or for a little humbucker (Lil Screaming Demon only because the name is so cool :D).

If you're going for a classic stack or a vintage single coils you should check the neck radius - Jacksons have a pretty flat fingerboard which means staggered pickups won't be the best choice.

Re: what your favourite middle position pick up

In my experience middle pickups are oddballs - they just sound weird. Cleans are okay, leads don't sound the way they should due to the pickup's position. The best success I've had with a middle pickup was with a noiseless Fender single. Not that middle pickups have bad tone, but if you want scorching leads and whatnot you *may* be better off trying to get them from the neck or bridge. There's a reason why there are tons of bridge/neck guitars and very few middle-pickup-only guitars :)

i have Duncan's Hot Stack in my Ibanez S540, i bought it thinking that it'll give me a thick humbucking tone despite being a single coil format but it turned out otherwise & it's one of my fav simply because it sounds more single coil than the average single coil.
