What's a good multi FX processor?

so lately I've been getting tired of complicated pedal setups, especially with gigging all the time now, and I'm sure most of you know how bars/clubs are with rushing bands on and off stage as quickly as possible. I like simplicity so the less wires and connections I'm dealing with, the less stressed I get!

So I'm thinking about ditching my current stomp box set up and just springin for a nice quality multi FX processor, like maybe the Boss GT-8. Does anyone have any experience with this thing? Any recommendations of other processors or maybe I should scratch this idea all together??? Thanks in advance!

the GT8 is a great pedal, but isnt as plug-n-play as some of the others. if you love to tweak, there is no better one. if you just wanna plug and go, the PODxt Live might be a better choice.

Gt-8 Is ok
Zoom has somw good ones
Line 6
digitech
I'd stay with either boss or line 6 with Zoom closely trailing them.

I don't mind the tweaking. I'll spend as much time as that takes at home so I can be ready for gigs. I care more about ease of set up when I get to gigs, like I can just run a cord from my guitar into the pedal board, and then from the board to the amp and then be done with it. Currently, I have my stompboxes hooked up with patch cables so its the same design as far as ease of hookup to the amp, but as I've said in a thread from a few weeks back, one of my pedals is causing bad noise through my stack. I'm pretty sure theres a bad patch cable in there too. With a multi FX, I could eliminate connections and wires (I hate a mess of wires!), and I'd gain every effect possible so I'm not going to lose my current effects, and I'd get all the ones that I don't have yet.

All my stomp boxes right now totalled up probably equal the price of the GT-8. I also like the ability to program a variety of different sounds and have different presets that I can cycle through.

The other guitarist in my band currently uses a GT-8 and he loves it. But he's just one person I know, so I was wondering what the general consensus around here was. With his though, I was very impressed with the features and the sound quality.

What I'm thinking about doing if I get something like the GT-8 is running it through the effects loop of my amp. That way I can just plug my guitar straight into my amp so when I'm not using effects, I still get the best possible purity of signal through the direct connection from my guitar to the amp.

Re: What's a good multi FX processor?

I like the POD xt Live. But I haven't had the success that ratherdashing has with placing it in front of an amp. I used it direct to the board, with a small bass combo amp as a monitor.

I am actually back to using pedals into an amp again. But I still have the POD as a backup.

Re: What's a good multi FX processor?

I'd highly recommend the Boss GT-8
I got the POD XT Live a few months ago and was happy with it, But about 2 or 3 months ago it broke on me. Still trying to find where to send the damn thing to get it fixed.

I got the GT-8 at christmas and I was instantly happier with it. I found INstantly the the effects were WAY better to my ears (a big plus if that what your gonna be using it for). And I also thought that the amp modes sounded less compressed and more realistic (contrary to what alot say) and am Very happy with it as whole.

I really like it's versatility too and the fact it has an effects loop (Pod XtL doesn't) .
If you use the "4CM"(4 cable method) you can set say patch 1 and 2 to use just effects and use your amps preamp,So patch 1 you mite have as mabye slight reverb and chorus or just plain bypass, then patch 2 mabye delay and a +3rd harmony in Dm with an overdrive pedal to boost it. Then patch 3 you simply set with the "loop" button "off" an it becomes a preamp aswell that you might set as a Vox lead tone or whatever you want straight into your amps power section.

Re: What's a good multi FX processor?

well as some bros have said, if u dont mind the hours tweaking, then the gt8 or even 6 would be one of the better pedals to get.
i didnt really like the Pod XT Live, however IMO, it does distortion better. u can get a heavier sound from it.
overall im still more of a gt6/8 fan. not as digital sounding as the rest, to my ears.
