What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

Question stated in the title. What's a tube amp I can find on e-bay between 15 and 50 watts that'll go for $100-$250?? Any brand is accepted! Reccomend me something!

Also if you know of any REALLY good SS amp that's suitable for gigs that'll go in this price range on the bay, reccomend that!

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

laney aor heads go for around 200 and up used. Peavey valveking and similar amps are pretty cheap too. Same for solidstates, peavey make some great ss amps, others would be randall and crate along with marshall that can all be had cheap on ebay.

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

I see, I'm shopping around for the best deal. I'm really keen on a power block, and hopefully a guy on the forum will still have his for sale when I get the dough, just need some back up options.

Keep the suggestions coming. This is for use at ska/punk gigs! Must be able to withstand beer mist!

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

I'd go with a Laney AOR as well...my sister uses one through an old Crate stereo 4x12 (yeah, we're upgrading that soon) and it sounds AMAZING. I've run it through my Dr. Z 2x12 before and it sounded even better!

Can get great rock tones (of every variety) out of that one.

:) wellcome the club bro, but a head will be at least 400 if not more, 30 watt combo will be about 300. anything under would have problems with functionality.
PF,
For SS look for Kustom - best solid state combos.

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

I'm tempted to snag this one....I have wanted a 6v6 amp for a while, but I'm not so sure this is the 6v6 I'm looking for...I'm also fairly certain this guy is wrong and it's actually EL84's...because why would a british amp have american tubes? sounds like a stupid reason...but why would their large amps have EL34's, and then have 6v6's for the lower wattage ones?

Laney AOR 30 head

but just for reference, two AOR 50 heads have sold on ebay in the last couple of weeks for >$300. One sold for $265 and another for $295

295 and 265 ????? Crap !!!! You sure about the sellers? have other priorities for a while but I will get at least one more AOR, I want a 20th limited eddition aniversary white tolex one. The best place to ask about Laney is on www.Laneyforum.com, good laney crowd. You know I love the AOR circuit so much despite being a EL34/E34Ls guy I would like to try one, AOR simply cant sound bad to my ears.

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

I'm looking at 100-250 including cab if I buy a head. That's why the Power Block is looking so nice right now. Keep the suggestions coming though!

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

The sellers seem legit. The AOR really is just a sleeper amp that nobody seems to take notice of for now...better stock pile 'em while we can before everyone wants 'em :)

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

if you're willing to settle for solid state, the Peavey Transtube can be had for maybe $150, and while it's not the real thing, it does a pretty alright job of that tube-like crunch. it's plenty loud enough for gigs, and if you're lucky you could get one and a cab for under $250.

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

Look for an old PV Butcher or VTM head... Sovtek Mig is another sleeper. Any of 'em should be $300 or so... maybe less? You'll need a cab to go with it...

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

I got my pro junior for 150. I know your looking for headroom, but a pair of cleaner tubes would fix that for you.

Not necessarily lots of headroom, I just need something to stay clean when cranked so it's loud but clean. need the ska tones as well as the punk crunch. Though I guess sticking some 12AT7s could solve that???

I dont see why not, I run pretty crunchy tubes in my amp, but AT7's would def clean it up. Some day i will have to experiment with them. They sound so good though, you could always mic through a PA.

Re: What's A Used Tube Cheap On ebay

Fender FM series any good for a get-me-by-for-a-few-months-amp? They seem to be snatchable for around $100-$150 for a 2x12. I know these are SS, but, well, I'm looking CHEAP, so I gotta consider anything that will be decent. Still main sights are set on a power block if I can't find tube.

Transtube is a solid state amp... they're ok. I'd take one over a Fender solid state anyday...

How about this? It's what was used on all the early Soundgarden records... Sonic Youth... Mudhoney...

PV VTM head

Thanks Moose, it's on the considering list.

Would a cranked 5W tube head (with an 12AT7 tube) through a 4x12 cab get me loud enough for stage?

Probably not.

Going tube, 15-20 watts minimum... and you won't have much of a clean tone to speak of. Solid state... at least 80-100.

Maybe an old PV bandit? They're a staple of broke guitar players... sound halfway decent and can take a helluva beating...
